Somewhat Threatening Sniper
It has come to my attention that many of skial's servers have switched to instant respawn. I despise instant respawn because it ruins the game by encouraging suiciders and making it very hard on attacking forces to attack a place right next to a enemy respawn point. I dont actually think instant respawn helps servers fill up, and all it serves to do is piss off people like me who recognize instant respawn as a game ruining element. I propose that we get rid of instant respawn on most servers, or at least on 2fort NY where the server filled up pretty regularly anyway. in order to reach a compromise with people who like faster respawn, we could reduce respawn down to 10- 15 seconds instead of 20.

It's good on 2fort, and hightower imo. Just implement it on select maps.

Honestly the lack of a fast respawn 2fort is why I haven't started playing on skial again, now that I know there is one I'll probably resume.

I agree its only good on CERTAIN maps though.

Instant respawn has proved to be an absolute pain for any kind of objective map, however on maps such as ctf_2fort and plr_hightower, the objectives are regularly ignored while players usually find themselves trying to fight each other instead of cap the intel/cart. Having a 20 second respawn on a map where you just want to DM or just screw around tends to be frustrating and overall annoying, and since the objective is not being played as much, there's no reason to care that it becomes too difficult to cap the intel/cart.
 
What are you thoughts on adding a delay to spawning on a trade server?
Honestly I dont really play on trade servers so I cant say if it would be good or not, I just hate instant respawn in general.

I dont think some people here realize that instant respawn just ruins the game in general on all maps for reasons I have listed. I can tell you that it definitely ruins 2fort, no matter what some say.

Most people who play on 2fort play it as a deathmatch. I feel the lack of it makes that map terribly terribly boring.

I can assure you both that 2fort does have a objective and a good number of people like to follow it even if you dont. Instant respawn ruins that.

also Antamania I can understand if you want a faster respawn time but frankly instant respawn is just ridiculous.

Aren't the respawns a few seconds now on skial not instant? I might be speaking out of my ass.

When I play 2fort, and a lot of the regulars who I play with also enjoy playing it like a social deathmatch. Very few people sit there trying to cap the intel.

I'd prefer that than actually achieving the objective. Seems a lot more fun, in my opinion.

Some people do, some people don't. My point being that there are a lot of people like myself who only play 2fort, and we only play it to talk to other people / dm. I don't enjoy objective based play in a public setting in general.

I am merely saying it doesn't ruin the map, and a lot of people look for instant respawn over longer.
 
Look 2fort might be a joke to you, but it is a actual map with a actual objective which a good number of people would like to actually do. And considering that in Counter Strike you have to wait the whole round to respawn, I dont think 20 seconds is too much to ask, especially if you are just dicking around anyway.
 
This isn't about what people want, It about keeping our servers full for the longest possible time. If fast respawn is what keeps servers full, then it is what it is i guess.

I can understand that but can anyone actually prove that instant respawn fills up servers more? if anything Im less inclined to play because of instant respawn.
 
The servers just got instant respawn so there is no "proof" that they are more active. If you give it a week or two we can tell what is going on.

Right now all 6 of our 2 US fort servers are full.

Then if a week passes and the servers do not fill up any faster, then would you give my argument more consideration? Also Im confused to as why 2fort NY was changed to instant respawn because from what I could tell, it filled up pretty regularly.
 
This is all Bottigers call. If the servers do not change activity wise then I do not see why he would keep fast respawn. On the other hand, he will keep it if he sees any improvement. Servers are dieing because of Valve's quickplay. We need to keep them full someone.

Well then I hope Bottiger will see this thread and understand that instant respawn is not a improvement.
