Is the the D3000 series the one that replaced the D40? how much did it cost you?

D40's what I've got. It's sadly underutilized these days.

My brother has it, it's a nice camera. I prefer my D300 though. I hate having to dig through menus to change settings.

it depends on how you use it. A 18-200 mm lens probably would be more practical than having a fixed lens. You'd get a lower f-stop with the fixed lens though. Which is better for shooting at night / in dark settings.
