You must understand that not all admins are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, while I bet some would love to, it's just not that easy. If you really do feel there is an issue and want us to handle it, I suggest recording a demo or taking a screenshots, here is Skial's tips when it comes to obtaining hard evidence:

Playing music is not mic spam. People talking that you don't like is not mic spam. People talking over you because they have you muted is not spam. If you don't like someone, client mute them. Starting a thread to say "trade ny needs an admin because I don't know how to use client mute" is extremely ridiculous.

Why would playing music NOT be micspam? People advertise trades all the time over mic. Having someone playing music while others are talking is annoying it makes it harder to hear.

A year or so ago we discussed our stance on music being played. The jist of what it came down to is we allow people to play music on any server and you are allowed to attempt to votesilence for it

I personally don't agree with allowing music on trade servers, I can see it being disruptive to trading but that's the stance we took on it awhile back

Some admins have told me that the higher-ups said to remove music as a reason for spam. Mainly because some people play good music that people end up listening to. Also because you can use the chat to trade. If someone is playing music that a lot of the players enjoy, I just start using chat and listening. But if it's an extremely crappy mic and music that no one wants to listen to, then it could be considered spam, I think. Even if it's a song that I don't like, I wouldn't mute them for spam since some people might actually like the music that person is playing. That's why it isn't against the rules.

It's understandable and I could personally care less on regular servers, but on trade I think it is different. Being able to communicate on a pub server is not essential. On a trade server, if you can't communicate there is literally no point in being there.

I guess I forgot when the admins made that decision. No point in arguing about it anymore.

Also, add admins on Steam. If we are online, we can answer questions and/or come into a server and check out the situation.

I'm not saying I disagree with you. I don't think music should be allowed on trade. I'm just sayin what Bottiger and the other admins said

Reasons... to micspam...? Why the hell do we need a reason for a reason to silence someone? Secondly, "good music" is only opinion. If half the server wants something, and the half wants it, is it truly fair to one half of the server that they have to put up with someone disrupting their trading? Even to the people who "like" the music, do they TRULY want someone to mess with the reason they are even on the server? There is a reason to why music is allowed only when the server is willing to put up with it. When even just a PORTION of the server doesn't want it, ESPECIALLY a trade server, there's a reason we don't let it happen. Some people are annoyed, and other people find that it's pointless to be on the server if no one can hear what they have to say.

As a regular on Trade NY, I agree that it probably could use an admin. But tons of people mic spamming isn't the only reason. There's client mute for that.

The real problem is that some admins think any music coming out of voice chat is spam, I don't agree with that definition.

I don't see why we should exclude ourselves from controlling spammers on any specific server. There are some circumstance I've seen people complain about.

  • Random babbling and shrieking.
Playing really bad quality music as if it TF2 voice chat wasn't bad enough.
Multiple people spamming music and voice clips at the same time.
If people don't care about it, I wouldn't consider it to be spam.

The general rule of thumb I use is if someone is playing music, leave it up to the votemenu to silence him. If people don't vote yes to silence him, then it isn't spam. Let it go and just client mute the person. Most of the time it works.

I do automatically silence people for static, constant yelling, etc.
