Even if im in trade server, sometimes when i go afk i only get like 1 credit.

After 5 minutes of not killing anyone or talking the server will think you are "afk", and you will receive less credits.

(Only in a trade server)

There's nothing stopping you from doing the same thing? Just leave tf2 running in the background.

Bottiger said that people can AFK to get credits, so it's not like they're exploiting or manipulating the system in any way.
However I do agree with you though that I don't think they're being very helpful by being AFK, people don't want to play with AFK bots.

They are being helpful. You don't get more credits for being afk, so we are not making players decide to afk instead of actually playing.

The choice is between having afk players or bots, not a choice between having afk players or real players.

Also people that are afk have the chance to turn into an active player, something that can't be said for having regular bots.

The kick from AFK servers also doesn't always put you in a different server I have found. Unless that's a donator perk it seems they are either luck or trying to AFK so much that they pay attention to when they get kicked so they can rejoin

If you join from the global server list, we can't redirect you. This is a limitation made by Valve.

I will try adding a 30% penalty to slightly encourage people to be more active. But other than that I don't see any issues with this.

It should work from your favorites. The global server list is the list with all tf2 servers in existence.

Its allowed to do /afk to earn credits.... and people on the contest leaderboard have been playing
aswell as seeding servers with /afk... most people agree that seeding our servers is great as we get more players and if you are rewarded with seeding credits even when /afk it is fine.
Also seeding servers all day is boring AF so /afk is a great idea and gaining full credits from it is fine.

the person whos first even wakes up in the night to carry on seeding... which could be considered sad aswell as wanting to win badly

Was there a change to the amount of credits earned? I am on a server with 7 people and am receiving 24 credits/minute. I believe I should be receiving 35.

Edit: Just saw "I will try adding a 30% penalty to slightly encourage people to be more active. But other than that I don't see any issues with this"

Please note: This has created a competitive advantage for the contest since now AFKing your credits will result in a 30% penalty. Meaning that the top 1 and 2 players are even harder to catch up to now since they never encountered the penalty until this point.

Example:

The difference between Ed's credits and mine is approximately 112,015. Assuming we both are AFK on a server with less than 10 people.

Old Credit/Minute: 112,015 credits / 35 credits / 60 minutes =53.34 hours

New Credit/Minute: 112,015 credits/ 24 credits / 60 minutes = 77.79 hours

As shown above, it will take me an additional 24.4 hours just to catch up to Eds points given the new penalty system. I may have used the wrong leaderboard (http://store.skial.com/top.php) however my point still applies.

All this contest did was encourage players to /afk servers 24/7 for a hat. From the start, this contest could have encouraged players to actually play the game. A suggested fix would be to use the current "Event" system to encourage players to join specific server(s) throughout the day for a slight credit bonus.

We might as well just hand the contest prizes out since there is no possibility for the top 1 & 2 to be overthrown.

the contest made more people play skial, more players = more people seeding.... more seeding made more people join skial servers as they werent empty.. this most likely made skial have a larger playerbase compared to the average of the weaks before the competititon

I don't have the server statistics so I cannot speak to the increase of player base as a result of this competition. I can however provide you with some details to consider:
  • When something new (such as this event) is introduced, it can have a positive impact on the number of players. However, you will notice that the server player base will slowly decline back towards the mean. The real goal is causing a positive shift in the mean.
  • I doubt that a new player is going to enjoy playing with the number of AFKs I've seen recently. This number has increased dramatically since the competition.
  • While looking at the quantity of players joining the servers, you must also consider the player "experience" while on the servers as this will effect repeat "customers"
Food for thought,

Cheers

food for thought once a server is seeded the afk people move to unseeded ones :)

The event system already works like that. It points to servers that aren't full yet and are likely to fill up so you get a seed bonus as well as a good chance that the server becomes filled and becomes fully enjoyable to you.

As I said, there's nothing preventing you from doing the same thing as well when you don't feel like playing anymore.

Play as much as you like, and then go afk when you want. I don't see how this encourages people to play less than they normally would.

When something new (such as this event) is introduced, it can have a positive impact on the number of players. However, you will notice that the server player base will slowly decline back towards the mean. The real goal is causing a positive shift in the mean.

The main point of this contest is to highlight the new store, and I think it is working. I don't see how we can improve on this.

I doubt that a new player is going to enjoy playing with the number of AFKs I've seen recently. This number has increased dramatically since the competition.

I am going around random servers and I don't see any increase in AFKs. The servers that have a lot of AFK players are ones that wouldn't have had any players in them normally. The servers that fill as Eddd has said, get all the afk players moved out as people rush to join the servers that the contest participants seeded for them.

Is the 30% penalty going to be for the contest only? Mr. Devil was the one who complained about the price of certain items and now he's complaining about players afk'ing their credits. Pretty logical. The easiest way of getting the full 35-40 credits was to seed while being idle. It's gonna take even more time to get those items now.

It will apply to everything. I think 70% is still very reasonable, and you can do contracts which take very little time.
