Ok I guess I'll say it again then, because people are greedy. They sell those mounts for a lot of gold just so they can have a lot of gold. They buy those transmog items to show people that they have more gold then them. People buy those nicer cars to feel better about themselves and to show off to other people. Cause we all like to be better then each other. And in a videogame where I'm supposed to shoot people I'd rather be better then people by being able to kill them then by looking better with a fancy hat

Meh, some people enjoy the economy as well. I find myself in trade servers a lot more often than I do in a regular server. I like trading up and knowing that I'm essentially playing the market, trying to grow my BP $. To each their own I guess.

I remember when i was f2p,i found a name tag while i was in a server.I decided to sell it right away,a guy saw my found notification and wanted to trade me a dirty hat that's worth 1 ref.I had no idea how the price system works so i just went for it.Then a player stopped me,telling me it's a scam. The scammer and the guy argued but after a report threat, the scammer left. The guy who warned me added me to his friend list and gave me a free hat, also told me to keep the price tag.To this day,he's one of my best friends but it's really sad that he quitted tf2.From that experience,i've tried to stop people and my friends from being scammed.

However, that guy isn't a scammer. Before hearing about the price of the name tag, you were willing to go through with the trade because you wanted the hat. Upon learning that "values" come into play when trading, you refused. Hell, I'd take a dirty hat over a name tag regardless the price, if the hat was something I'd wear when playing.

Values are just annoying little numbers that give everything a set price, causing people to mislabel others as scammers and sharkers.

I don't thinking sharking is a good thing, but frankly, it's like the same thing as alchohol or smoking.

It's allowed, but we know it's bad.

Rather than shark some kid (Or anyone for that matter), why not teach them the positive aspects of the game and be a good guy and teach them.

or you could sell the tag quickly and then buy his hat for one refined and keep the other two refined for another hat

if ANYTHING, I would try to shark them and be like "now let me stop you right here. I just pretended to shark you for more/less than your item is worth. do you agree with this price?"

The funny thing is that dirty hat probably cost some one more real life cash than the 1$ name tag costs

I'll shark the fuck out of a stupid kid.

The game is rated M-17 for a reason. Anything to discourage squeakers from playing any aspect of the game is ok by me. If they get screwed because they didn't bother to check how much their items are worth, that's on them, and their parents for raising a dumb kid, and then giving their dumb kid money to buy things from the Mann Co store.

I wouldn't shark off a kid, I wouldn't shark anyone.

EDIT: A very nice kid offered me 20 keys he got for his birthday for my The Anger, I said no and gave him my anger for free.

C'mon guys kids might be annoying and break your headphones with squeaking voice, but they don't deserved to be sharked by wealthy people.

I usually raffle out my expensive stuff for the heck of it anyway, so I guess I wouldn't.

Since when was sharking bannable by SR? Last I've heard, it's only frowned upon but it won't lead to any action against you.

I must correct myself, SR won't tag for sharking nor will any other community unless it's additional info to a scam, never alone because both parties came to an agreement before trade and the agreement went through. However, many SR affiliates and communities will ban PERMANENTLY for such actions w/o tag simply because they don't want such people on their server, 1 example of a community that does so (read bottom).

HERE it's allowed (which should really be changed) but, as prior stated, lots of other communities won't allow it.

Most communities don't accept sharking reports anymore for good reason because the definition of sharking is really to hard to define. Community A defines it as "A trade which user A lies to user B about the price" while Community B defines it as "User A rips off User B". The latter of which, has an ambiguous definition at best. For all we know, rips off can be defined with a scrap in difference or a bud in difference. What ended up happening in some communities is that some players started to report players who would "lowball" them as sharking which of course was annoying for any mods and traders. Again, it's hard to define what "sharking" really is. And then we get things like "quicksells" which further make sharking harder and harder to prevent.

Sharking is wrong. Let's leave it at that. Ripping a guy off for valuable items can't really be condoned. But it's just something you can't enforce because the definition is too ambiguous. Now I know the real world uses the universal commercial code which is like... nine articles long which lawyers can literally beat each other to death with, both verbally and physically, but who has the time to type that up? The real world's potential value in 26.9 nonillion or 26,900,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 dollars (this is an estimation) whilst the Tf2 economy in total is only worth about 16.9 million dollars. The massive difference in potential wealth will probably make the Tf2 economy... less serious. While I don't doubt people can easily benefit financially off the Tf2 economy, having known someone who brought himself a car by selling his backpack, the less serious means the "laws" of tf2 trade. Do people ever go to jail for stealing TF2 items? No. They just get banned from trading and/or marked as a scammer. Do people even get marked as a scammer for ripping someone off? No. The worst that happened back then was they got banned from certain communities, which most of said communities don't even accept sharking reports. That being said, sharking is going to exist. Here in TF2 and in the real world. How many times has some street vendor sold some really low-quality items for a bundle? Or how many times did someone selling a few thousand year old artifact from Mesopotamia had it brought for only fifty bucks? It happens everywhere and unfortunately, there's no way to stop it.

Hey if you can't beat them join them

I don't shark anyone because I don't really care about how much value I can make off of a piece of data and pixels. To participate in a broken economy that's primarily supported just so Valve can get more money in such an animalistic way sounds like a waste of time to me IMO.

In all seriousness, i wouldnt offer an unfair price up front, but if say some kid was like "I will pay you 1 bud for your tossle" i wouldnt hesitate to say yes and make the deal.

lol all these people pretending to be pious and holier-than-thou with their fictitious stories

If the opportunity came up for to make an ez bud, I'm willing to bet that most of you faggots would jump on it without the slightest feeling of remorse or hesitation.
