I have. Honestly when you're trying to get rid of something and an offer that is much better than what you are looking for comes up, I'd feel dumb not taking it, even if the technique seems a little douchey. I don't mean anything personal by it, business is just business.

I suppose that's a little different. In this case, the kid is trying to sell something (a key) and everyone is salivating and has a fucking hard on to see who can get to trade him the fastest and get the key for the lowest amount.

Well for unusual trading sometimes people price and sell things for half or even an entire bud for high tier items. I would feel bad sharking a kid for something worth a good amount. He has limited resources and knowledge unlike an adult who can most likely buy another item. I would inform him about what he has and if he understands and still wants to trade than I might trade lol.

it's not wrong if someone overpays or underpays for an item, thats how money and trading work. Maybe it is quickselling or sell to make a (big) profit.

Depends on the pay to me. If someone is using outpost, clearly they must know SOMETHING about trading. But to find a brand new player that clearly just spent some money in the game and try to rape them as hard as you can is a little funky. Especially if you can hear on the mic that it's a little kid. I mean fuck, he was getting confused about scrap/reclaimed/refined. I might snag a key for 1 scrap or 2 scrap less than market price. But to pay 2 scraps for a key when average is 8.55? Sounds like rape.

Sounds like mad dogging him for his items, not sharking. They saw his weakness and exploited him, that's just being a dick.

I found 2 examples of myself being sharked when I didn't know better. These are from my own inventory history, both at least a few years old I would imagine. It would have been nice if someone saw me about to get ripped off and said something.
But then again, I'm an adult and I spent my own money on the game. So if I want more items, I buy them.

I personally think children nor adults should be spending money on games (Unless You're Buying Them of Course XD). I think games should just be for fun and shouldn't require to waste money on. In the end it doesn't benefit you in any way other than a fun time but where is fun going to get you in life. Now I'm not saying you shouldn't play video games at all because they are very fun and can relieve stress (or add XD) but there should never be a point where people are constantly buying useless things to look cool in their games. I know plenty of people on TF2 that are living poor and all they spend their money on is food and TF2 items. Now I don't want to insult anyone who does but that is not very mature at all. There's your free educational lesson for the day kids (and maybe adults).

If someone has to decide between buying keys and putting food on the table, I would hope they would opt for the food. Myself, however, I view the money I spend as having entertainment value. I've got the expendable income to do so. I could just easily go spend it at a bar, or at a casino, or at the movie theater (and sometimes I do), but it doesn't come down to me either paying my bills or getting new items. Heck, I played WoW for ~13 months at $15/month. That's nearly $200 just in subscription fees. Also purchased the expansion for $75. But I enjoyed the time I played, and it was worth it for me to do so.

BTW it is refreshing to see so many people that agree that it's wrong to screw over little kids. I know that people are out there that would push a kid down and step on their head if it meant they were getting a good deal on TF2. Luckily that seems to be the exception.

Well, given that TF2 is R-rated and kids aren't supposed to play it anyways, I'd probably shark them just to teach them about life

Well, you could be a good trader and spend $10 on keys and trade up to a high-tier unusual. That is what I am currently doing

Mad dogging is when you constantly try to get a trade in with someone, usually when someone is selling below the average market trade.

Ahh gotcha. HEY DUDE YOU'RE TRADING WITH SOMEONE, PLEASE EXIT AND TRADE WITH ME! I GOT BETTER DEAL 4 U!

no. not even if they were snobby. I'd shark no one, as it leads to a bad rep, AND because I don't like it.

I must be the only person in here that would rather educate the kid and try to teach him how to check key prices on bp.tf before he sells. These fools are running wild among themselves to try and get a key for cheap.

Pretty stupid/immature if you ask me.
I wouldn't and tell him to look up prices before he accept offers

Trading safety is what I specialize in as I was taught about it by SR officials so I feel strongly about the topic of "sharking".

Posts in this thread show trades for items for unusuals where there's a significant difference in value of what was exchanged, that isn't sharking. If a trade occurs and one side isn't happy with what they got, that's not sharking, that's the user's fault as they are responsible for any trade they engage in.

Furthermore, sharking as a whole is not okay as it is an SR bannable offense. So saying things that say you're not in the mood or you're to lazy to shark makes you look awful.

Also, bp.tf is not recommended by people as their prices for unusuals are rarely up-to-date.

In the case of the screenshots I posted above, it wasn't that I wasn't happy with the items I traded my unusuals for. At the time, I had no idea what an unusual hat was. I found it in a crate so it was worth ~$2.50 to me. I asked if it was special and was told that it wasn't. So I traded them for some different items that I thought carried the same value.

If sharking is NOT misrepresenting the value of someone's items so that you can get them for cheap, then what is it?

It is exactly that, but your screenshots show just the trade, no chat. Without evidence that you were dragged into that trade, no admin would except that under any circumstances as a "shark"

Oh I didn't want to report anyone. This was at least 3-4 years ago. It was much later that I even realized that I got sharked. Just showing it as an example of why I wouldn't do it to a kid.

I used to be like that. But being a nice guy on the internet doesn't give you brownie points anywhere. I wouldn't lie to the kid though, take advantage of his broken prior knowledge.
