"This is a massive, massive budget title," he says, citing the expense of modelling three separate vehicles for each of 27 characters, as well as the transformations between them.

This time, I'm Vyse from Skies of Arcadia, a new addition to the All-Stars line-up, driving a fantastical steampunk machine. The other confirmed newbie is Golden Axe's Gilius Thunderhead.

These 27 characters will be unlocked in a new single-player adventure mode which is "inspired by games like Mario Galaxy," he says. "There's a feeling of starting at one place and unlocking characters, rescuing them as you progress through the game and different game modes... I thought the original game was a fantastic driving experience but maybe lacked a little bit in meta-game type stuff - progression and things like that."

I am just saying...
I feel as if SEGA is running out of Sonic game ideas
hey if they can make sonic a fucking werehog then they still have ideas.
but really, just make sonic go to the right. BLAM GOOD GAME IDEA. except Sonic 4 uses it so it's a bad idea

If the first idea was good, then they'll continue to make the same game with different characters until it loses a profit
Do you work at Harmonix/Activision? Do you like plastic guitars?

I played the demo for the first Sonic Racing thingy. It seems pretty legit. I hope Sega doesn't get over-ambitious... again.

i've played the first game too, raced every race as Banjo. just saying that most racing games are similar, just with different names for their powerups, maps, and characters.
that doesn't mean i won't buy it

It was quite funny, right. We were sitting in a meeting room at work watching the E3 conferences and Nintendo came on and we all wondered if they’d be doing a new Mario Kart. Then they had a montage of things and you had a kart sprout wings, and we all looked around the room, and then you saw a car go into water and we were all like ‘no f***ing way!’

But then they went into each one in depth, and although it’s kind of flying, it’s more falling with style because we’d discussed something similar to that in pre-production as we were trying to work out how to get these three modes in and we called it falling with style as you’re always falling but you have some choice. Whereas the driving under water… that’s not boating. So what they have is a kart game with additive options which are really well built on and add to the experience but we’ve gone away with that in what we were doing.

There will be a few people who think we’re copying them but no, we’ve been making this game for 18 months. But that’s the nature of it and we feel confident from watching people play it and hearing opinions that people are really enjoying it, especially the freedom of flying and that the boating is actually quite challenging to do. It’s a different game.
