Somewhat Threatening Sniper
I haven't read this whole topic so this may have already been said.
Putin was the head of the KGB during part of the Cold War if I remember correctly. He was also elected to a third presidential term and I THINK they're only allowed two terms like our presidents.
Fact is the Russian people like him and as long as that is a good thing for Russia then so be it. America will never have a strong relationship with Russia while a soviet era person is in charge on either side so in my opinion we might be good friends later in my lifetime.

NATO simply wants to avoid a war so close to home because if one of their countries is attacked, it starts the next world war by default.

I just think it is interesting, because I was reading an article on comparing Hitler and Putin. Showing how the Olympics was in Germany before they invaded a country. Then the Olympics were in Russia before they invaded a country. I think it said that both events were 2 weeks separated by the Olympics. History repeats itself.
