http://finance.yahoo.com/news/female-gamers-bad-study-suggests-125019319.html The actual f--- is this article?

Jeffrey Kuznekoff and Michael Kasumovic — researchers from Miami University and University of New South Wales, respectively — watched how male players treated female players during 163 sessions of "Halo 3," a popular Xbox 360 first-person shooter game that debuted in 2007. The game has an online multiplayer mode that enables actual human beings to speak with each other live, in real-time.

Do tell.

I saw a rebuttal on Forbes that brings up a lot of good points

It does not say whether these comments were gendered, only that negative comments were made more frequently when playing in the “female-manipulation” group.
this one study—with a relatively small sample size of just 189 speaking players and a total of 163 matches—is only a very tiny first step toward any sort of cohesive argument, and far from conclusive.
saying more negative things around women does not necessarily equal sexism unless those things are overtly sexist, which the study does not claim. It may mean that some men feel more comfortable expressing their frustration around women than around men.
