All of the games have been marketed. It just so happens that this is 2013. Back when RBY and GSC came out, there wouldn't be anything on the internet or many tv spots for it, it would all be in magazines. Obviously as time progresses, so will the means of marketing them.
RSE were all marketed heavily as the first generation on the gameboy advance. FR/LG slightly less so, although it was the first set of remakes. DPPt were all marketed heavily and noticeably, because you're at an age where you'd notice those kinds of things, with the saturation of media content, not to mention they were the first generation on the DS. HG/SS got lots of ad time for the nostalgia value. This is the first generation on the 3DS, with arguably way more features to advertise.

"words of encouragement", for fuck's sake, it takes away immersion and character depth (even though they're only 3 line NPCs...) if they are just going to be like "Oh, I lost, I'm so happy now!" like they did in BW/BW2. No, many trainers are literally saying I AM HAPPY THAT I LOST. Like, I would be pissed if some guy came and beat the shit out of my Pokemon, but no, these guys like seeing their Pokemons beaten to pulp. It's like they're trying to punish the poor things, like they're fucking sadists.
Maybe it'll be something passive-aggressive like "Glad I contributed to your overconfidence you purse-toting chump!"
Or they could make the games rated M.
