(This screenshot is a fail. The user is slippery and chose to brag about DDOS'ing me via Voicechat rather than text in order to avoid me providing evidence.)

Description: The antagonist and myself are not friends. We have run into each other multiple times on the US Trade Server 1 over the last several months. I had not spoken to/about the antagonist in literally over a month. However, about 2 hours ago (11:45pm 1/26/2012) in the US Trade Server 1 he comes out of nowhere trolling me, stating that I told him I would sick his dick. I was kind of shocked and fired back that he should learn to speak English properly. He then asked if I wanted him to DDOS me. I replied back, "Yeah, go ahead." thinking it was an empty threat. Then my ping shot way up and I was unable to access webpages for around 2-3 minutes. This happened a total of 3 more times in game (as I rejoined). Each time I tried to confront him about it, he was slippery enough to not admit it so that I couldn't screenshot it. I went on Teamspeak (spoke with ViperStriker and Rhi) and was basically told that without being able to screenshot the antagonist, very little would be done. However, these attacks occurred 7 more times over the course of the hour. Following the 6th attack, a user who I am familiar with (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198060117460) added me on Steam out of the blue to tell me that the antagonist had been bragging about DDOS'ing me and that he had witnessed my ping skyrocket as the attacks ensued. I saved the chatlog from this witness. The witness also came to the Teamspeak Channel to vouch for the antagonist's trolling and DDOS'ing me.

Fearless Juggernaut: Yes? -_-
Fearless Juggernaut: You're from the Skial Trade server.
Fearless Juggernaut: Can I help you? -_-
[SpA]Pizzaman: Can you believe that guy?
Fearless Juggernaut: What?
[SpA]Pizzaman: That people would do that
Fearless Juggernaut: ZerØSoul?
Fearless Juggernaut: Did he do something to you too?
[SpA]Pizzaman: No, but
Fearless Juggernaut: Did he brag about dos'ing me?
[SpA]Pizzaman: That pissed me off so much
[SpA]Pizzaman: Yup
Fearless Juggernaut: Really?
[SpA]Pizzaman: Sucessful troll is sucessful
Fearless Juggernaut: You got screen shots, by chance, or could you get them?
Fearless Juggernaut: If so, it'd really help.
[SpA]Pizzaman: Well, I don't know what you'd do with them
Fearless Juggernaut: Show them to the admins
Fearless Juggernaut: Could you get the screens by chance?
[SpA]Pizzaman: I left that server
Fearless Juggernaut: Bummer
Fearless Juggernaut: I'm kinda surprised he was actually able to do it.
Fearless Juggernaut: Like...not only did it kick me out of TF2, but it fucked with my connection for a bit.
[SpA]Pizzaman: Well yeah
[SpA]Pizzaman: Sorta what a ddos attack is
[SpA]Pizzaman: Be glad he isn't being consistent with it
[SpA]Pizzaman: Best thing to do is try to get an admin's attention, maybe he'll get banned
[SpA]Pizzaman: But then the servers themselves could get ddosed
Fearless Juggernaut: Been trying to talk to the admins, but unfortunately I don't have evidence since most of his bragging with via Voice while I was there.

Fearless Juggernaut: I think he is continuing to ddos me. What a jerk.
[SpA]Pizzaman: It try to get an admin's attention
[SpA]Pizzaman: right now
Fearless Juggernaut: I'm online with my ISP now.
Fearless Juggernaut: It doesn't matter, they can't do anything about it.
Fearless Juggernaut: I've been talking to them in team speak.
[SpA]Pizzaman: Oh
Fearless Juggernaut: Not unless I have evidence, which I can't provide.
[SpA]Pizzaman: What If I joined
[SpA]Pizzaman: Their teamspeak.
Fearless Juggernaut: I dunno
[SpA]Pizzaman: Is it a public channel?
Fearless Juggernaut: I think so
Fearless Juggernaut: ts.skial.com
Fearless Juggernaut: I appreciate your help, man.
[SpA]Pizzaman: Np
[SpA]Pizzaman: Do you have a local or a national ISP?
Fearless Juggernaut: Comcast
[SpA]Pizzaman: like, ATT,
[SpA]Pizzaman: Ah
[SpA]Pizzaman: They're pretty widespread, local cable internet providers probably wouldn't do anything
Fearless Juggernaut: That's what I thought. I gotta contact them back tomorrow.
[SpA]Pizzaman: Do you know if blocking someone blocks them from seeing game info?
Fearless Juggernaut: No idea. My guess would be no, but I can't say for sure.
[SpA]Pizzaman: I guess the best thing to do is to not challenge the guy
Fearless Juggernaut: Pretty much. I even tried to go into private chat and apologize.
Fearless Juggernaut: He closed the trade window and claimed I tried to scam him for buds
[SpA]Pizzaman: He's a troll, what do you expect
Fearless Juggernaut: -_- Common decency.
[SpA]Pizzaman: No, he belongs in prison
[SpA]Pizzaman: For cyber crimes
Fearless Juggernaut: True that.
Fearless Juggernaut: Filling out a report right now
[SpA]Pizzaman: Alright, cool
[SpA]Pizzaman: miitens is an admin
[SpA]Pizzaman: Mittens*.

Fearless Juggernaut: I was in US Trade Server 1 earlier when a guy started trolling me and then threatened to DDOS me. I didn't take it seriously, but my ping shot through the roof and I was timed out on my router for about 5 minutes. This occurred over 6 times from 11:45pm to 12:45am. I returned to the server several times, the dude was slippery and wouldn't give me a clean piece of evidence to demo or screenshot. He bragged about it on voice and I have a witness who just added me to state that he witnessed the guy bragging about DDOSing me.
Fearless Juggernaut: I contacted my ISP and will have to contact them tomorrow during business hours to get through to the higher up security servers.
ÁR Ruelel: not reading a wall of text
Fearless Juggernaut: -_- Goddamn it
Fearless Juggernaut: I got DDOS'd, hard to get evidence because the dude is a snake, but I got a witness
Fearless Juggernaut: The folks on Teamspeak referred me to you. What should I do?
ÁR Ruelel: go make a report on the forums
Fearless Juggernaut: What is the likelihood something will actually get done?
ÁR Ruelel: idk
Fearless Juggernaut: Look, I get that you don't really have an interest in doing much to help me, but I genuinely hope you can see it from my perspective. I spend tons of time on that trade server and have had VERY FEW problems with anyone.
Fearless Juggernaut: The dude is a troll and the fact that he went so far as to attack me through packet info is just ridiculous.
ÁR Ruelel: k

The best skial could do is ban him from their servers but the DDoSing issue is going to be personal and the admins cannot help unless they can give technical advice, but you can take the technical advice from anybody.

I completely understand. I would be pleased if the individual were to be banned from that trade server as punitive action. If he did this to me readily and genuinely without initial provocation (haven't spoken to him in over a month before tonight), then it is likely he is doing this to other patrons on the server. I have been part of the Skial community for quite a while, spent many hours on US Trade Server 1 and have donated almost every single month since becoming a member. I do this out of loyalty in hopes that similar loyalty will be shown to me when I am at the hands on an unreasonable injustice.

As for the advice, I'll gladly take it. I am calling my ISP (Comcast) back a second time tomorrow in order to speak with the technical specialists to see what can be done on that end. They were less than helpful tonight.

It occurred in the Skial trade server and I'm pretty sure that's grounds for punitive action to be taken against the antagonist.
It happened while you were using skial servers that would be like telling Microsoft they need to ban someone from xbox live because they were DDOSing them while they were play COD

Had I and the antagonist not been on US Trade Server 1, he wouldn't have obtained my IP Address and victimized me. I don't think it's unreasonable to request he be temporarily banned from that trade server for attacking people who play on that trade server. If I randomly went about attacking other people who play on skial servers, I would expect to be held accountable to legitimate consequences. I'm a member of this community and a contributor...you're basically implying that no action should be done because the DDOS is carried out against my IP...when it was the Trade Server that allowed the antagonist to gather my IP and begin the assault, then brag about it to others on the server.

Does this mean that if I go to Wal Mart and attack a few customers that the victims should only seek civil court? I would think the Wal Mart store would prohibit me from going in their stores.

So how often did you get disconnected from the server?

So how often did you get disconnected from the server?

4 or 5 times out of the total 8 attacks. During the last 3, I was not trying to access the trade server and was engaged in a conversation with a Comcast agent. Also note that in the middle of my chatlog with Pizzaman connection was lost and restored...that was attack number 7.

What irritates me the most was prior to number 3, I had just re-connected to the server only to have the guy go, "Oh yeah, I'm going to DDOS you again to make it 3 times". Before this I simply thought it was connection problems. By round 4 it was obvious. I just wanted to play on the trade server like I always do. Before he explicitly stated what he was doing, I was clueless about DDOS attacks, except having occasionally heard the term used when servers were getting laggy.

What do you have for internet protection because it might have a log you could send to your IP

So if I get a DDOS attack while on Yahoo I should expect Yahoo to take action?

This doesn't have anything to do with Skial...
he said he thinks some action should be taken since the only reason he was targeted was because his ip was obtained while on a Skial server and the guy also targeted other players that were in the same server
(in case you didn't know you can find the ips of the people your playing with through console)

I gotta disagree, we should be protecting our players from people like this, It is also Illegal to DDoS. As for comparing to yahoo, you can't do /status when on yahoo to see users.
This has got to be classed as griefing on a grand scale, unfortunately like any other accusation, before any action can be taken, there needs to be proof, all I can establish is Juggernaut saying he was attacked, and no actual evidence.

It's not our job to police this, it doesn't involve our services in any way and it's impossible for us to actually do anything about. What does status have anything to do with it?

Even if this were possible, which it's not, but let's just say it is... That would mean that anyone could get any other players IP any time they connect to a server. And if that were the case it would be an assumed risk you take when you play the game. As there are several risks you take when you use the internet in general.

But let's just assume that's possible. That means it could happen on any server and would still not be our responsibility or have anything to do with us. I would suggest not saying or doing anything that makes people want to DDOS you in the first place.

What if it was 5 people on the server that got attacked? not sure about status, and how easy it would be for a hacking kid to gain access to an ip, but would imagine that there is a way, maybe wrong as I never studied that sort of thing.

Then 5 people should stop pissing off someone who is threatening to DDOS them...
