Many of us know, its mainly used as a generalist term for platforming though.

I understand. I bring this up because IMO the two should not be conflated. Platforming in comparison is a far simpler, elemental mechanic whereas parkour/parcour/freerunning has an expansive collection of movements. To say some platforming is parkour is to do a disservice to parkour. The term platforming is sufficient.
