I remember we used to be able to delete our own comments. I don't really see a draw back in not having this.occasionally I will see some one just edit their post and say never mind or please delete. I would like to have this option back.

Not being able to delete your post helps with making most people think before they post so they don't go about posting with the mentality that they can just go back and delete their post if they didn't get the response they wanted.

But it would come in handy for all those impatient people who hit reply to many times and cause a double post

This has already been discussed and declined.

I believe they were talking about deleting threads and comments I'm talking about deleting comments.
The person that started the thread can delete the whole thread.

I've already seen this happen which is why I removed it when it was accidentally introduced.
People losing an argument? Delete thread. People rage quit the forums because of falsely perceived mistreatment? Delete all their posts.
And my argument to deleting posts is what is the difference between deleting your post and editing the entire post? If you edit the entire post to completely change it from the original it's the same as deleting.

There are literally no problems with editing posts so I don't see a problem with deleting them.

1: if you start the thread and are able to delete your first post, it deletes the whole thread (this is how I read it anyway)
2: you get a time stamp saying you have edited your post

Oh I guess you are right about making a thread and it deleting the entire thread. Okay that's a good enough reason

If double posts are the main issue here, there are multiple plugins available to automatically merge double posts.
