It sounds like you may have corrupt system files...

If I were you, I'd find Windows install disk that matches the version that your install key is for.

Look for a sticker that looks like this on your case. The sticker may vary in style, but it'll be similar

Then find yourself an actual MS install disk. DO NOT use the included restore image that your machine came with.

Just run the install, enter your install key, and you'll be good since you already own the license and that's the part that MS bitches about, not about how you procure your disk.

If that doesn't work, then look at hardware issues.

BSOD on boot or can you fiddle around in the OS for a bit before it crashes? I'm assuming you can fiddle around for a bit before the crashes.

That being the case, I suggest you take my earlier advice and post here http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/

Those guys have a lot of experience debugging bsod's and I guarantee you're going to get a solution faster posting there than here.

Get the drivers from nVidia after you do the Windows one. WDDM drivers always act weird.

Downloading.
Will do. Does the legitimate-ness of the disk matter?

There are legit ISOs from Microsoft floating around. In fact, see if you can find a link to the DigitalRiver.com source for the ISO.

Which version of Windows are you running again? 7?

It's an eMachines. It's Home Premium 64-bit.

Awesome. I couldn't find my own links to the ISOs when I bought my key.

My only question was if the machine was old enough to have Vista on it.

LOL That answered that question. :)

So, yeah, start with a clean slate by installing a fresh copy of Win7 Home Premium 64-bit and use the key on your install key sticker (COA). That way we're eliminating any issues caused by the restore partition on your machine. You'll need to download a few drivers off of eMachines' site and definitely install the video drivers from the nVidia site, but that shouldn't be too hard as Windows will have most of the drivers for your system pre-baked.

Damn. Sorry you had to downgrade off the GT 520, Mod. Damn, that thing ran TF2 and Minecraft beautifully on my PC...which is STILL fucking getting worked on. I swear, if I don't get a call from them by tomorrow, I'm just gonna get a whole new PC, while I still can.

The Best Buy here has a turn-around time of three weeks.

Mine is three days. :D

I've been using OEM and retail disks to install Vista and 7 interchangeably for a while now. If the license doesn't authenticate immediately, you can always skip the entering of the key to do into a 30-day-trial period and go through the phone activation system to get it to work.

But it works.

Just as a side node, generic MS builds won't take his OEM license, so those links are useless to him.
As Roman said, it's been done a million times. MS has two types of licenses, OEM and retail, and OEM and retail disks are identical except for Windows 7 Basic.
