correct me if I'm wrong, I think most of the people who've gotten on reddit and complained are people who got banned. nothing's gonna really stop them from you know complaining because "Me angy because I got banned from my own stupid decisions, It must be the servers fault for this! Lemme go onto r/TF2 and cry at people who probably don't care!" Quite entertaining that lot is.

Maybe that's something you should do, Botty, or your reddit crusade

Providing they've got their steam profile linked, see if it matches any bans, and post away

Let the internet do its job

Nowadays people are smart enough to hide their identity so they don't get called out. And it doesn't matter if they are all banned players, they are all getting upvotes every time they talk shit about us and they are doing this all the time.

Here's some fresh examples from today.

It sounds as if people are pissed more about new players abusing a mechanic, and "admins letting them do it" (which is to say, they think its unregulated, because not everyone is in the loop on how it works)

Why are you pandering to them again?

You completely ignored the part where he said "The Community there is just the worst part". And they're getting numerous upvotes for it.

You completely missed the part where I implied what they implied.

Clearly they'd be implying the players.

Admins already deal with the actual troublemakers, if they don't already deal with themselves thanks to the automated responses most of the servers have.

If you genuinely feel like this is to do with the community, and the community isn't rulebreaking, I don't think you can do anything about that. Adding more rules just gets more people removed, and that just adds more insults from upset manbabies.

You've made yourself too big a target.

And I don't think a purge would be the right answer, if you don't want even more backlash.

I'm not making any more responses because, as most of the other guys who've left have pointed out have also stated, it circles back to square one. Most of the ways this could be sorted would be completely subject to everyone's interpretation, and would lean more towards hating particular admins, than it would towards just hating the servers. And when they don't get their own way towards complaining about said admins, they'll just shit on the skial brand as a whole. "Why should I care, I don't go there anymore they're all dicks as far as I care" is all I can think of them saying, in this scenario

We're not getting anywhere with this, and people will still shit on you, on various other platforms, regardless, because in actuality that's how most first person multiplayer fanbases are.

Go ham with what you want to do, I don't think you were interested in responses to begin with. Or, at the very least, you were hoping the majority of them would be right behind you.

Plus you've got your little reddit army, because apparently neckbeards matter the most as to who goes to play on the server. If you're fine with rocking votes on reddit, does this even really matter? Just hire people for a reddit team or something. Thats essentially what you've said you've got going on.

I don't understand the point of this argument. The thing they are claiming is that our community is "toxic". Whether or not it is the players' fault or our fault does not matter. People want and expect that we deal with it. If we have a rule for it, that's 1 less thing they can claim.

I know that since you've been punished by an admin before for what you believe was unfair, so it is against your personal interest. But for the greater good of remaining the most populated community (which also benefits you), this needs to be dealt with and not just ignored.

I made this thread for many reasons. If I didn't care about input from the community why would I bother making this thread?
  • To make people realize that this is a becoming a real problem that is eventually going to be an issue for the average player and needs to be addressed, either with a new rule or some other way like having more people defend us on reddit.
  • You got a chance to persuade people that we don't need a rule like this, but you did not succeed. The arguments that we're the biggest so we just have to live with it just doesn't convince me.
  • You still have a chance to give input on how such a rule might be worded so you aren't worried about being wrongfully punished.
Also don't see the point of this thread of yours.

If people are really just there making up shit as you say just to screw with us, they're going to tell you the opposite of what needs to be done.

It was so you'd get a response from the people you're trying to cater to.

Why do you want their opinion if you think they are just banned players trying to ruin our reputation without our servers actually being toxic?

These people already made their response clear, they don't want to have to deal with toxic players.

I can see why a possible 'toxic' rule might be threatening to you BadmanoftheBrine.
God damn, this thread has become lower than A Case Study of My Name Jeff
It just sounds like nothing we do will be good enough to please you, and you might as well have just asked a wall someone pointed out, instead of the listening post right in front of you

<Reddit Title>Skial owner mad about reddit</Reddit Title>

I agree with many (not all) of your points, but when you write stuff like this, why care about what you say.

I used to play very often on Harvest | US, however I find that sometimes when I join it, the community there tends to be younger, and from my perspective far more toxic. For that reason I have stopped playing Harvest | US as often. I also know of a player that told me that they don't play on that server as often because of frequent 'transphobic' content. When I do play harvest, I often just turn off voicechat completely, whereas I don't need to do that on 2FORT+ | US 1 as often.

The point is, I believe that each server has its own community, and I agree with Bottiger's statement in how the the player-base is self-selected.
I put forward a vote to mute someone that was spamming mic, then was almost votekicked 2 minutes later in retaliation. This just happened, but it's the second time this week something like this has happened to me. The first time I didn't bother filing a report. Is this toxic? Is this kind of behavior good for player retention and skials reputation?

This is why I don't play Harvest | US as often. Watch through it for the full experience

That is already listed under spamming votemenu.

Spamming. Examples:
  • Calling random votes, even on yourself.

I meant the entire situation is toxic, the 4 players yelling / screaming in the mic, votekicking in retaliation for attempted votemute on mic spammer. I understand it's already covered in the rules, I just wanted to point this out this as I believe this is very toxic (and breaking several rules), versus the mostly innocuous (in my opinion) video you linked earlier. Thought it might be helpful to know what goes on in your servers, and what I consider to be actual toxicity that probably makes people avoid certain servers.

Ive never really had too much of a problem with the community on skial and ive been on here for about a year or so now. i mainly just get the annoying ppl but thats in the regular player base of tf2
Have to agree on that point, I get a lot of hate and harassment from the idle server and it was never a huge problem to me

I don't think the issue is so much about curtailing toxicity as it is about taking a firm stance about weeding out the idiots.

Like for example's sake some kid comes in waving a swastika objector thinking he's some kind of stand up comedian. I've seen these guys get bans appealed. But at the end of the day, when you deeply think about it, is someone who would go to the actual premeditated trouble to do that someone you want to keep around?

Idiocy is the common factor in most of the problems that the servers face. Hacker running lmaobox? Idiot. Loli sprayer? Idiot. Child screaming on mic? Idiot. Scammer? Idiot. Guy who friendlies all game and refuses to play the game? Idiot.

And it becomes all the more egregious when idiots are allowed to convene where the herd becomes emboldened by their numbers and they form cliques which is when others start noticing and when action becomes necessary they get butthurt, try to twist the rules into something that suits them, and failing that they go to reddit to shitpost, mainly because reddit has a lot of sympathisers for these type of people.

Seriously I posted a funny video of a spy chainstabbing a 10 man conga line (on skial where it is technically against the rules) and the reddit dorks downvoted the hell outta it.

I feel like maybe 40%-60% of the people that only even get muted leave and don't return.

eh...friendlies are allowed here now. I mention it because I see your last post was in 2016. Though I do understand what you mean and experience it myself when friendlies voteban me for killing them.

On topic: I don't agree with an anti-toxicity rule but that's just me.

I guess I'll also throw out there that Joe Q. Public can have a pretty warped view of toxicity. To many players someone playing something well is "toxic".
