Why are we even bothering with this bullshit. Bott is gonna do what Bott wants to do no matter what anyone else wants. He owns the place, he's the "King shit of turd island". He shut down unmod, then opened it, then closed it again, and he will slowly tighten this "Toxicity thing" also. Save your breath and stop wasting your time.

This troll hit the nail on the head earlier in the thread.

If I didn't care at all about the opinion of the people here why would I bother making this thread?

Remember when everyone here was very anti-friendly? And now that we've removed the friendly rule, the servers aren't dying and there aren't mass complaints about friendlies either.

Does that not tell you something? That perhaps people are overreacting about having a toxicity rule? Maybe they are wrong about this just like people were wrong about friendlies?

The question should be, is there really that much toxicity on the servers, is it a problem, or is the problem merely people shit talking on reddit?

It's become a frequent talking point that it must be addressed in some way or another, and not just ignored. No other community has dozens of videos like this.

Now if we had as much positive coverage as negatives like this, I'd feel comfortable ignoring this. But the negative videos like this way outnumber the positive ones.

And before you say "well skial is the biggest so it has the most haters", let me ask you, have you seen as much hate directed towards Valve or Apple on social media? The answer is obviously no.

I don't believe I said that, at least not in this thread nor recently, and yes I see hate for valve and apple all the time, also for facebook, twitter, tiktok, microsoft, amazon, walmart, in fact all large leading companies.

Honestly, that video is really weird, and the fact it got so many views is even stranger to me. It's mostly benign chat, and at most it's a 15 year old being a bit edgy, which for that age is kind of expected in this kind of environment. I usually mute those kind of players, and if there are too many I join a different server.

I would be interested in seeing what other 'negative' coverage there is. I don't have a negative opinion of skial, and it does not seem any more 'toxic' than any other game community I have ever played on.

From my original reply to this thread, my view remains the same, which is that specific types of discriminatory behavior could be moderated more strongly, and it is quantifiable, whereas general 'toxic' behavior is not as easily quantified.

I actually think it is a contributing factor, I think it is not easy to stay on top. But I have to agree with Maddo, there is plenty of hate directed towards Valve and Apple on social media.

Go ahead and search reddit or youtube for Valve or Apple.

Now do the same for us. Or just look at any thread where people are complaining about casual, and you will always see at least 2-3 comments talking shit about us.

People are always complaining about apples disgraceful repair service, their use of basically slave labour, slowing down older phones, removing the standard jack, their lack of compatibility, .. Valve.. bot crisis? tf2 left to rot?

skial is big, the bigger a group is, the more negativity it garners
this is the biggest skill issue there is
theyll always complain about skial and they will always be ignored because of it
also to note we do have a pretty dumb player base, people poking fun at it shouldnt be of any concern

Maddock hit the nail on the head

Yes, of course I've seen them get more hate

Because theyre nearly 100 times bigger lmfao

At best, I imagine skials had maybe 10k players tops, of both having played and known about it

God damn, this thread has become lower than A Case Study of My Name Jeff

Heck, you say "on social media"

Half the time, social media (which usually average over millions of users daily) tend to get far more shit

Wouldn't something along the lines of "Skial and it's admins reserve the right to mute/ban/silence for any behavior not directly outlined above" work out? It's vague enough and then the admin team can just handle fringe cases internally? I just don't want some rule added that prevents people from talking shit even if it's with ill will. Half of the reason I play this game is to lob grenades and tell people they suck.

Go ahead and search reddit or youtube for Valve or Apple.
Nintendo, Bethesda, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, 2K Games, Valve, the call of duty franchise, Paradox Interactive, Square Enix, Disney, Illumination Animation, Ubisoft, Activision-Blizzard, Naughty Dog Inc, Mojang, Game Freak, Take-Two Interactive.

Just a small list of companies and communities that have entire followings dedicated to hating them that send them death threats hourly and people see others hating on them so they also decide that they also want to hate them. Remember when it was cool to hate Justin Beiber and Rebecca Black? Look up the "bandwagon effect".

Also, read Kael's reply on page 6 of this thread. He summed up the toxicity thing damn near perfectly.

There's a huge difference between that and us.

Take a look outside of the tf2 subreddit (which by the way most people there still claim that official servers are superior to community ones if not for the rampant cheating).

https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/https://www.reddit.com/r/valve/
For each negative mention that Valve gets, there's like 10 positive/neutral mentions.

For us, the ratio is much much worse.

The difference is they make a product, skial utilises a product. The other thing to take into account is the complaints aren't about skial, they are about players being toxic, bear that in mind.

These are most likely moderated by steam and valve, so negativity against them will be diplomaticaly removed.
It also makes me think that r/tf2 is probably the more toxic community. It is very 'memey' in its nature, which without a doubt attracts a certain mindset.

I mean, you can continue focusing on a bunch of users comments from one (potentially bias) subreddit, and let it be your moby dick. You might be good to look at the amount of complaints here and directly to admin then deal with people who need to be removed from the server.
You don't need to make a rule, just ban people who are vile and their only interaction is to annoy the player base, do this for a while and reddit will start saying skial are the servers that don't put up with any shit. I still think you need some kind of jury or voting system for a more objective view on whether something is toxic behaviour though.

Using Reddit and YouTube as a baseline probably isn’t the best way of gauging how people think of the servers. Half of the time they’re being disingenuous and probably overblowing a situation where they were in the wrong (think ban appeals where it’s everyone’s fault except the person who actually was at fault). Also, some of the people on that sub think Saigns is the same thing as Skial l o l. Not the best way to get feedback, especially when people are much more likely to share negative experiences than positive experiences.
