It's from a comedy website, but it's a decent explanation of why good television shows (especially cartoons) wind up failing. It's partially because of viewers, but mainly because content producers are failing to/refusing to adapt to changes in media consumption.

Every time I see a recurring character die just barely off-screen I cross my fingers the show won't get cancelled for being too violent.
