For most of you, the !admins command is kind of nice for verifying who is a admin and who is an impersonator.

However, for some of us admins it is a pain in the ass. A lot of people use it to dodge bans or stop breaking the rules when they are around. Hell, some people do it just to say hello and break our cover. I understand this command is used for verifying admins, however there are other ways to go about it.

This problem is bigger in custom where the more prominent regulars and rulebreakers lay.

I think we could use some other form of verification, such as a colored name so that it's not visable until we speak if we decide to go in undercover.

Even though it's not that big of a hurdle, a few other admins and myself agree that it is the bane of our existence.

EDIT: Just realized this was already suggested, if you would like to decline it instantly that's fine.
Jailbreak / Custom servers suggestion.

I really like !admins just because I can see if an admin is on the server or not when I join, but I have to agree with sroy. Whenever an admin joins, someone will type in !admins and suddenly the server becomes more well behaved. After an admin leaves, someone types !admins and then usually will say "oh good he's gone" and the trouble begins again. +1 for an alternative

Get your friends to type /admins. The person that typed it can see that there is an admin on the server, but the command is not displayed in chat, so no one knows that it was typed.

It is not a pain in the ass. I have never had any problems with it at all.
I'm mostly talking about on jailbreak, where almost everyone knows the command.
They type it every time they see that someone has joined the game, and if its an admin, they will usually say hello {name} in the public chat.
Like I said, I never noticed it had already been declined, so I apologize.

Possible alternatives:
-Colored name / prefix
-!sadmins command which broadcasts, or whatever, the current admins online, but only admins can use it (to verify).

I think both of those sound good.

-1 Never really a problem. Jailbreakwise I come on, ban 1 dude, everyone types it and it becomes a church group of do-gooders.

I would but the thing is that basically the whole server knows the command now, its a epidemic.

A colored name and/or prefix could work as Drum said. I like that idea.

As I suggested in the other thread, a command could be added to temporarily hide yourself from the admins list such as sm_hideadmin (toggle on/off) or sm_hide sm_hideme etc. You would still be visible to other admins, just not clients. Also, there are people who have binds for /admins and use them when people connect, I've seen this a number of times already. So along with the hideadmin option, maybe automatically hide them when they connect then prompt them with a menu to make them visible or keep them invisible?

Just some ideas. Hiding your visibility from the admins list isn't always needed, but there are times when it would be useful.

I like the idea of a colored name / tag for a few reasons.
For instance, people asking questions or for an admin.
I also like it for cosmetic effect

Several times now I've had my cover blown by rulebreakers making thorough use of the !admins command before doing something stupid like voteabusing or micspamming (this being when I was trying to go 'undercover')

Some of them aren't stupid. They know its there and they'll use it and it works in their favor.

Even if they stop while the admin is on, they will continue to keep doing what they're doing once the admin leaves. They don't rethink their actions once they see an admin, they simply wait for them to leave before continuing to break the rules.

I'd say its a problem

+1 Ozzeh's idea.

Also, I feel like this would be great for some hacking reports that don't have evidence. Maybe not much of a huge problem, but it could be handy for some cases.

A colored name or a prefix would probably be great because sometimes I see players ask admins questions in chat and it would be easier to point out who's who when reading the chat.

If an admin joins, it's expected for the players to be on good behavior. Think of the admins as police officers.
They should be punished for what they were doing regardless, and catching them in the act is better than letting it go.
That's why undercover police officers exist.

It's not a problem of people knowing there's an admin on, it's a problem of people being able to know there's an admin on when the admin is trying to go undercover.

We don't try to hide our presence on the servers, but sometimes a player report requires us to go undercover. The last thing we need in that situation is the reported player spamming !admins to see if the coast is clear to break the rules when we're trying to watch them.

I'm getting tired of people on Jailbreak and VSH saying "Hi, Avenger" when I'm busy trying to catch someone breaking the rules. I like Ozzeh's suggestion
