I went from a GalaxyS2 to a S3 to a S4 to a Note1 to a Note 2 and even to a Galaxy Mega. The Mega was just too big even for my bear size hands, so i reverted back to the Note2 and it just seems to get better and better with Samsung Galaxy series. As for you i would suggest the S4 as i have a couple friends that love theirs.

I'd personally recommend Samsung Galaxy mini 4, maybe previous series if you want to save some money. It has micro SD slot with removable battery that should last for some time, it's quite compact and solid. It has android with huge app market + support from Samsung for some time. I think it'd be ideal for you. It should be also smooth as .....

I had iPhone and I think it would be ideal for you, you could potentionally order it from different country and unblock it, so you could save some money, but I don¨t think it's worth the hassle.

I got my iPhone 5s for $50 with a two year contract. You can't tell me that is over priced.
You do understand that the rest of the price is in your monthly bills from cell provider, don't you? And "cancellation fee" is actually the remaining part of iPhone's price?

Yes, the phone itself was cheap but I still pay a monthly phone plan. Thats for any Smart phone though, it isn't specific to the iPhone.

Your monthly plan would've been $25 cheaper if you paid off this phone in full. Now check how T-Mobile works and see what I'm talking about.
Now do the math. $25 x 24 month of contract = $600. Now $600+$50 you paid upfront=$650.

You see that? T-Mobile made it visible, while AT&T still incorporates this monthly payment into your monthly bills.

Ohh.

I bought mine at Best Buy for $50 with a 2 year contract. But i am 90% sure i am not making monthly payments on it. I will check later.

I am looking at my bill and my plan, I paid $50 for the iPhone 5s.

I pay a $40 a month for having a smartphone, and $60 a month for 2GB of data. Making my Monthly bill $100 a month. That is all I pay, i don't see anything that says im paying for the phone anymore.

Whoever recommends Android should probably experience an iPhone just as well or at least an iDevice in general. The bloatware on Android is absolutely ridiculous and the amount of changes that vanilla Android goes through completely ruins any experience with all the shit put on a phone. Personally for me, I'm waiting for an Ubuntu Phone. which might come out this year or next, but if you don't wanna wait, get yourself an iPhone. Its cleanliness and lack of shit that normally gets put on Android is so satisfying now that I think about it. I got myself an Android phone to fuck around with and I was shocked as to how much shit was on that damned thing.

Whoever recommended Blackberry and stated "Adobe Flash support" as a positive should probably rethink his life. That plugin is a fucking zombie.

Why not just pay $70 a month to get an unlimited data plan with a free smartphone ?

Dude, it's not listed in the bill directly, but you are paying $100/month for your cell service, while I'm paying only $75/month for unlimited call, text, and data. Why? Because you are paying off the phone in installments (this installments are hidden in your $60/month for data). Why, for God's sake would AT&T sell the phone worth of $600 just for $50? Think for a second man.

Would AT&T lose its profit by giving away $600 worth smartphone? No! What AT&T does? It attracts new customers with a nice price of $50, but it makes money back on the price of the phone, by splitting the rest of the price over two years of your bills - that's why you sign a contract - they pretty much lock you in for 2 years so you with your monthly payments for the service would pay off the phone.

T-Mobile made it more transparent - they walked away from this model and now they offer you no contract, but offer you to finance your phone - pretty much the same shit, but it's more transparent now.

Do you get it now?

This. Exactly this. Many people fail to understand that taking a phone on a contract makes really no big difference in the long run. Hell, many of them end up paying way more than they need to. Take my cellular plan for my current phone without a contract. I get 2 gigs data, unlimited 2G (the really slow internet) data, 400 minutes of talktime free, 400 texts free...for $10 a month.
And guys, I appreciate the iPhone suggestions, but I already said that I'm not getting one because it comes for about $1200 for the 32 GB version, which is way too much for a freaking phone, of all things (I would rather save up that money to upgrade my PC or something). If only the Nexus 5 had a better battery....

Well, I just wanted to say that it might be possibility to order it from another country, where it's cheaper and then unblock it. There used to be dozens of people in my country doing this, but I would say it isn't worth it either, just said it's a possibility in case you'd be interested.

That makes sense. I didn't know it worked that way, its actually my first time buying my own phone plan, and my first iPhone. (my dad was cheap)
