I love hopping across the border for some poutine.

Also, I'd try the kimchi/bacon grilled cheese. I like both, but never had kimchi on a sandwich.

Really? It was sooooo delicious.

Next time I'm in Canada i'm going to try all the poutineries in town. All the Mr. Sub's too. Oh how I miss that place :/

I sense mass amounts of weight gain in my future -_-

I made a cake for my friend's birthday. The decorating isn't so nice... I didn't have an offset spatula to smooth out the frosting. And really, at that point, would a piping bag really have help?

Ah well. I think my friend liked it even though they didn't try a slice.

P.S. - it's a strawberry and whipped cream layered white cake.

Once piece of trim to go on the door and I finally finished my kitchen. It started as dark paneling and a 70's style yellow and lime green kitchen from hell. Little sweat, swearing and a few years later and I finished it. I am pretty happy with the end product. Did the drywall, electrical, hung cupboards, trim, lights and tile myself. The only thing I contracted out was the drywall mudding and sanding. Now you see where Shula does her cooking.

So, It was my boyfriends birthday yesterday as well as Canada day and I decided to try a new cake idea,.
Mille Crepe cake with nutella and strawberries n creme filling. :)
2 words.. SOOOO GOOD
It tasted like my favorite Stafoglia cake but omg first time making crepes and I was such a noob. lol Ignore the bad designing of the cake. I was trying to make it nice but
I find I could've done more, it was a rush job.

the layers were quite messy as well but because of the cutting the top chocolate coat, it was difficult to keep it straight lol delicious none the less.

Okay, I had a request for a cookie recipe so I will post my chocolate chip cookie recipe.

Preheat oven to 350F

1/2 cup softened butter
1/2 cup Crisco vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp baking soda
2 tsp hot water
1 tsp salt
3 cups flour
2 cups chocolate chips (you can mix butterscotch or peanut butter chips in if you want)
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Cream together butter, Crisco, brown sugar and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well. Dissolve the baking soda in the water and add to the batter. Add salt and then add the flour one cup at a time, mixing slowly. Stir in chocolate chips. I roll it into a big log on the counter top and cut off slices to make it even.

Or you could just use a spoon and drop spoonfuls on a cookie sheet.
Bake these at 350f for about 11 minutes for smaller cookies or 15 minutes for larger cookies like the ones I have pictured. Then you have these when you are finished..

My daughter got into the chocolate chips when the babysitter was here so I had to do a combination of chocolate/butterscotch/peanut butter chips.
