I think it looks nice but why do we need to move in that kind of direction with cars?? People used to remember cars by how they looked and there personality with all of the corm and just the pure american ingenuity and crafts man ship.

Well alot of things have to do with MPG regulations. Every newly manufactured vehicle has to adhere to a minimum MPG rating so you have to add things that may not necessarily look good or unique to increase the MPG. You also have to factor in crash safety rating, etc etc. Cars back in the day were required to have like, windshields, seatbelts, and a bumper. Nowadays it's a lot more.

From what i under stand all of this anti pollutant and safety crap they put on cars today is whats killing out gas mileage. I mean dose any one know what a crumple zone is if not Ill tell you. A crumple zone is just a mass amount of metal welded to the front of your car not to mention with the mass production of cars they wont have the money to build the cars with real steal. now i admit my car dose not get excellent mpg but it still gets tops 21.58 miles to the gallon even weighing in at 3,580 pounds and just being a 4 door car. If we were to take a car that is exactly like mine and another modern car that is used for the same thing mine was who is going to win in the way of less damage an survivability. Yes i know it dose not have seat belts but if you install them your pretty much riding in a tank.

A crumple zone is a certain areas of the car that are designed to deform and crumple a certain way during a crash so as to lessen the impact on the driver....Not extra welded metal.

That's a myth that steel is better than composites we have nowadays in terms of safety. Cars are designed to break into peices to diffuse the energy of an impact, also...

I mean sure a solid steel car may hold up better but you have a higher chance of getting whiplash and bruising from a seatbelt. Think of how bulletproof vests work. You have the plates and you have the actual kevlar. Bigshula might have actual experience in that area, but without the plates, any kind of blow to the vest will hurt like shit. The plate is meant to break and absorb most of the force. I'm not sure if they're bulletproof without the plates, but I think they can stop some things still.

New story as well. How the fuck do you get distracted for 900 miles?

My vehicle safety knowledge is actually slightly more than my knowledge of Kevlar. I spent 9 years in the testing and development end of the vehicle safety industry. That being said, there are many many reasons I would take many modern vehicles over classic cars in the way of safety. I've crashed and rolled enough vehicles on the test track to know what I would and wouldn't drive.

Some rangers that work at parks in populated areas wear Kevlar; I do not. The most I usually ever deal with is drunks, skinny dippers, people doing naughty things in public and bears getting too close to the campers and so forth. One day I will make a "Ranger stories" thread (people go full retard on vacation). Anyway..... standard Kevlar vests have no steel plates. The ones my ex husband used to wear in Iraq had the steel plates and was heavy as hell.

Well there's steel plates and ceramic plates. My friend has a vest and I've worn it myself and it has the ceramic plates. But yeah, the plates are the biggest part of a kevlar vest either way. Still unsure on if they can stop a 9 mil or .22 without the plates though. It would probably break a bunch of your ribs in the process if it did.

There are around 5 levels of vests. Ceramic and metal plates can be used additionally to protect against high velocity rifle rounds. The lowest 3 tiers of vests are just Kevlar woven fibers. the mid range level 3 armor without a plate will stop up to around a .357 round or a .44. I'd really not like to find out personally either way.
