You wouldn't believe how huge it is. It is possible that your account was VAC banned based on violation reported as placed from your IP. It might've been not you, but your neighbor - you simply got his IP in lease due to dynamic IP's rotation. The chance that you get the same dynamic IP again or IP address of another hacker/cheater/scammer in your area is pretty high considering retarded mechanisms ISPs are using to rotate their DHCP leases.

So until you get to the bottom of this case with Valve, DO NOT spend any money on your "fresh" account which Valve may consider to be an alt, by the way.

Valve VAC FAQ said:
If you choose to purchase a new copy of the game, please register it or install it under a newly-created Steam account.

I also read in the faq that the VAC does not track IPs, just accounts/SteamIDs

I would assume that this would in fact be the case. Since it's an automated process that scans for .dll and .exe hooks it has no trouble banning you again for hacking and if you dont, you're welcome to keep your account in good standing.

I finally received a response:

Hello Cody,

Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

We apologize for the delay.

Our system indicates that the account has been permanently banned by the Valve Anti-Cheat system (VAC) for use of cheats or other unauthorized modifications. Steam Support is unable to lift the ban.

We will not disclose the cheats which were detected, nor will we provide the date and time the infraction took place. VAC has confirmed that the ban on the account was applied legitimately.

This ban applies to a Steam account (regardless of who was using the account at the time the infraction occurred). The use and security of the Steam account is your responsibility.

To see which games your VAC ban affects, please launch Steam and go to Steam > Settings > Account tab > select "Click here for details" under VAC Status.

You may still play single-player and connect to non-secure servers (if applicable).

We cannot move game subscriptions from accounts which have been banned by VAC.

If you choose to purchase a new copy of the VAC banned game(s), please create a new Steam account to register the game(s) on.

Sigh... I wish they could release the info on why you were banned, because I'm not sure what kind of mod would do that, as the only modifications I have are reskins, a hud, and some configs... But as someone said earlier, they don't disclose it so hackers can't use it to make their hacks better. Oh well, I'll just have to continue with a new account....

So Valve is actually encouraging you to make an alt account to avoid the ban?
I agree that it was most likely caused by you canceling transfer of the files, as it may have been canceled mid transfer of one of the files that VAC checks, so it may have been corrupted, on a side note, I think that removing the sniper's scope zoom is also not allowed, but I'm pretty sure that's undetectable, but I may be wrong :/

One could speculate that they wouldn't be interested in removing vac's to force people into buying new copy of the game.

Then again, people have no business changing the game .dll/.exe files to do anything. The only reason you'd really change it is to actually hack or if you completely have no idea what you're doing and just, well, doing stuff.

TF2 was F2P last time I checked...
You still have to pay to unlock certain options and features.

Static void's explanation of how he got banned is plausible, so I presume there are innocent reasons to get a vac ban. although they are probably few and far between.
