I think we should look back at the whole third-person thing. The threads I have looked at about this problem have all died or have been locked, mostly due to people over-reacting about people's opinions, so this is why I am making a new thread about it, and I'm hoping that it goes better then the others. I'm not going to one-side this thread, I will try and tell you the good and the bad of having third-person as well as not having third-person. Ok, let's begin.
I have been playing on Skial server for about a month or so now, and I've loved it, the main factor of me staying was the fact that the servers enabled third-person, I loved the fact that you get perks just by playing on their servers regularly, and I have loved the fact that, if I donate, my time on the Skial servers will improve immensely. Whenever I used third-person was when I played classes that I have to watch out for spies, such as heavy, engineer and sniper. When ever I played as heavy with third-person enabled, I would catch back-stabs around 50% of the time, so yeah, there is a slight advantage to that, but with that, catching that back-stab means that I had take my concentration off of the real fight to deal with the spy and check if he was dead-ringer'd or not, so that gave the enemy time to lob grenades, rockets, and the like at me, giving them the advantage in the short time I was distracted, and about 75% of the 50% of the times I caught the back-stab, I would just die by the other enemies, so there is a disadvantage from having it. With the engineer, I would catch around the same amount of back-stabs, but with them sapping my buildings, I would have to un-sap them by hitting them(of course) but with that, I wouldn't have a clear idea to where my wrench was actually hitting, so sometimes, I would have plenty of time to un-sap it, but miss it over and over again and have my buildings destroyed. As with the sniper, whenever I used third-person was when I did my jarate/bushwaka runs or my SMG runs, just so I can see the spies that I have coated a lot easier. I rarely used it to actually sniper with, and when I did, I would have to get used to the difference in where the cross-hair was and where it shown it was, which was a hassle and took time and dedication to memorize it. Sure, it gave me an advantage, but I had to work for it. With the other classes, it was purely due to me being an third-person shooter type of guy, and it was fun to see where I was at, and what I was wearing at the moment, but it always affected my aim, I had to get used to where my projectiles were really going, much like with the sniper.
With the fact the people used it for sort-of a wall-hack. Most of the complaints because of this come from people on 2fort, and I can see why people don't like it on it, it is an advantage on that map, clear and simple, if you were good enough, you literally could dominate the whole team if you wanted. With that map, it should be, of course, be disabled. There is other maps that have spots where you could use third-person to your advantage but nothing too big, especially as much as 2fort. With sniping in general, if there was a way to disable third-person based on what class they were playing, the could help tremendously with the complaints. There's got to be a way to make a plugin to do this, if not, that sucks.
With the whole deal, taking it out after being there for so long seems weird, so many people flocked to these server because they enabled third-person, and now that it has been taken out, there will no doubt be a decline in players, however big or small, there will still be a decline.
Now, it's late, I'm tired, and my hands hurt, so If I missed anything, or forgot to put something in, please let me know, and I'll explain my side of it.
But please, be respectful of people in this thread and hear them out and not just simply bashed their thoughts and opinions on this because they are different then yours.
