Unpopularity is one of the only reasons that maps on Skial get removed. Recently, surf_quack_v2 was removed for being "unpopular" even though it really wasn't. It was about as popular as Utopia, sometimes being played and other times being overshadowed by the popular maps.
To be honest, it's quite the contrary to me that unpopularity is the main reason for removing maps.
Now to the fun part: re-adding surf_quack.
Like I said, surf_quack was not that unpopular. It was probably the most popular of the 5 maps you removed! It was a good map, with an okay jail, and a fun surf. Are there really any other reasons to remove it besides it being unpopular?
Another map I would consider "not unpopular" that you removed, is surf_nameless. Nameless was the second most popular map out of the bunch you removed. People did like it, but it was also slightly hated. If you won't add back normal nameless, then I will work on my own then. The map had a slightly fun surf and a good jail, I don't see why there was a reason to remove it.
Back to the other question. What is the real reason that "unpopular" is the most popular ban reason? Why can't you just let the people of Skial Surf decide, like they do with adding maps? If there was another surf server rivalling with Skial Surf, and had a popular map which wasn't on Skial Surf, would you add it? In my opinion, removing maps for unpopularity is what can possibly be the pinnacle of killing a server. Removing maps that you find "unpopular" which may seem removed without reason to the rest of the server is just dumb. Please consider doing something about this.

Bottiger, you need to realize that Unpopularity ≠ Hated. If a hated map was voted in, half the server WOULD leave, yes. But unpopular maps are different. Some people might want to give the unpopular maps a chance to shine and perhaps become popular again, and some might just play the map and think "Hey! I haven't seen this in a long time!" The only reasons to remove maps should be if they are hated or cause crashes. If people stop playing a map for about 2 weeks, then someone might not be able to nominate it quick enough, before it gets unpopular-bombed by Bottiger.
