Wilson King of Prussia

Uncharitable Spy
Well hello there Skial community, I am Wilson, King of Prussia, and although I know this is just my second contribution to this lovely forum, I do have a few words to say about the handling of bans and mutes on the Jailbreak Server.

First of, I am more than happy with the Skial Mods and Admins, and I really enjoy playing on the aforementioned Server. You guys do a lovely job. However, I do believe the Jailbreak server needs a little revision in its rules, and I want to state my reason as well as my arguments for that.

The Jailbreak Server functions a little different than servers like 2Fort or Saxton Hale. While 2Fort is near to Vanilla TF2 and Saxton Hale is learned in one or two rounds, the Jailbreak mode requires some time until rules and basic etiquette is learned by new players.
While I have nothing against the little new puppies that join day for day, it is, in my eyes, useful and fun-enhancing to have veteran players around, to help the newbies acclimate to the rules and keep the basic order up.

Sadly, the longer one plays on the same server, the more time one has to do something wrong. Be it accidently freekilling a player, which can happen fast, or saying something in an enraged state that one would not have said normally, all these things can score a player a point on the ban scale, which ends at five.

Now don't get me wrong, people freekilling out of a personal vendetta, sheer fun at being destructive or good old stupidity certainly deserve a gentle touch with the ban hammer, and the last thing I want is a racist spreading his degenerated message on the server, but I would advocate to give players who visited the server for certain timeframes some extra points until they reach the limit, to balance out the aforementioned raised likelyness to, lets say, "having a bad day".

I imagine something along the lines of the following:
1-31 days on the server: 5 points limit
1-3 months on the server: 6 points limit
3-6 months on the server: 7 points limit
1 year+ on the server: 8 points limit

This would help keeping regulars on the server who prove valuable for the game, since they don't break the rules in 99% of all cases and tend to actually know what is expected of them during a round.
In the last time I have seen too many wardens getting mauled to death simply because they didn't know what to do, or votes about banning guards filed from a rightfully killed rebel which reached 50%.

Again, this is a suggestion, I would be glad if you all would consider it,

love,

Wilson

This suggestion has been closed. Votes are no longer accepted.
Wouldn't admins have to manually process points with this new sanction system? Unless a sourcemod programmer can surprise us, it'd be a hassle.

Also being so lax with the rules actually makes things worse than they already are.

We don't give special treatment to anyone, it doesn't matter if you are a donator or have been a regular for the past three years.

We do not ban people unless we know they are purposely breaking the rules. If we can tell something happened on accident then we don't punish the person most of the time. We really have not had any cases like this.

If you say anything against the rules(racism, sexism, ect) in any shape or manner then you will be silenced no matter what.

If a accident happens we can understand and let honest accidents slide depending on the circumstances. Because of this we don't need any point system that could and certainly will be heavily abused.

But if someone is intentionally breaking the rules they don't deserve 5-8 chances to stop before getting a single punishment, thats just entirely pointless. The standard ban lengths carry actual consequences that discourage players from continually doing rulebreaking compared to "oh you just free killed that one guy intentionally? Well you can do it 7 more times before we ban you for a day so please stop."

I've been on JB for almost a year now a little after i started TF2 and have not been banned or muted once by an admin for anything. Whenever I accidentally freekill anyone I immediately slay myself, when I accidentally ghosted at one point I encouraged everyone to votemute me for 30 mins because an admin wasnt there at the time. It's not hard to learn and follow JB rules plus it wouldn't be fair for newer players if regs were allowed to break rules more often. -1

Alright, after all your comments I begin to see my mistake here.
I am myself a very fair player, and maybe I have generalized that too much.

Meowcenary, I think I may have expressed my system in a confusing way, what I meant was that the permaban happens after the eight incident. The mutes/bans would be processed as is, just after the 1 month ban there would be a 3 month ban, then a 6 month ban, then a 1 year ban and than the perma.
But now that I am typing this out, I see myself that someone actively breaking the rules after a one month ban would probably not deserve or need these chances I suggested, as the misbehaviour would probably not stop.

I intended to secure fair regulars, but overlooked that their behaviour already secures them all by themselves. The only people my suggestion would help are the notorious rulebreakers, so I would like to take back my suggestion.

Thanks for all your concern and counter arguments, I appreciate the feedback and see my mistake now.
