Because in a community with an open appeal, report, ban, and mute system with near perfect transparency, admin abuse is very rare due to how harshly the community jumps on it and how easy it is to spot.

I was going to go after Admiral for your three month ban actually. I felt it was an incredibly harsh touch for a first time offense and it could’ve been a one week mute because having your admin app declined (likely permanently) was punishment enough.

I would have said it was a harsh reaction to a Admin facing direct criticism.

But you go on running your mouth on the discord and then you write a pretty terrible appeal and then you post here and I’m pretty sure you made that Reddit post too. For your appeal It’s not even the worst appeal I have seen in two weeks. And now there’s nothing I have to defend you. You just look like an asshole, making vague accusations that drag down the community and clearly violate the rules without putting any hard evidence forward. You can’t just go running your mouth like that without something to back it up.

I call motherfuckers out. If an admin is abusing their position, and I am given a speck of evidence to help someone in appeal I will do so always. But if an admin makes a good call and the person shows up and starts doubling down I will support that admin. It’s called not being a hypocrite.

i don't know why but when you pointed that out while i was drinking grape Fanta, I choked immediately out of laugh (almost dies for it) because I remembered that one admin (won't name them) who once said:

No. You will contain matters regarding your appeal, to your appeal from here out or you will be timed out from the forum. You will not be told twice. It's very clear from your behavior you only intend to lash out & insult anyone associated with Skial. You can dislike Skial, that is fine. You can trauma dump in your appeal.

The situation with Hognut reminds me of the years-long saga of Aceflamingo from the Kreatious Minecraft server. While their behavior is undeniably disruptive, including repeated community vote mutes, consistent toxicity in chat, refusal to provide video evidence, and signs of paranoia, it reads less like malice and more like a cry for help.

A neurotypical person would likely move on or adapt by now. The persistence and pattern suggest something deeper, perhaps untreated mental illness or emotional distress. In Aceflamingo’s case, the community initially ridiculed them, but over time...

I disliked Aeryns use of her ban ability here. I felt it was childish.

Why?

Because the person requesting the ban seamed like they were not doing well mentally. The proper thing to do would’ve been to forum ban them so they stop crashing out publicly. It would have given them time to compose themselves away from a place that obviously is not helping them. A forum ban would also be well within admin discretion for the incident.

Banning him after he requested felt like an admin publicly throwing their weight around just because they can. Yes he requested it but just because someone request it doesn’t make it the right thing to do.

In short. it was a very childish decision. It was not in line with any punishment and it felt like an admin acting outside of their discretion. This wasn’t someone requesting to be banned because of a video game addiction or some other thing where discretion for a ban was warranted. It was a request in the moment that we all knew that person likely did not mean and would have to request an unban later for if they weren’t pushed away permanently by the unjust ban.

So I called Aeryn out on it. Privately and publicly. I called it what it was. A selfish and childish move by an admin throwing the weight of their power behind a decision with little thought.

I messaged multiple people about it privately and I spoke openly in ingame about what happened. I gave specifics I was not vague like you.

Ultimately, I went to the discord and I had a discussion with an admin and hognut was unbanned.

Final resolution:

I fought childishness with childishness
I decided to make fun of Aeryn’s forehead until she asked me to stop as retribution.

But that same power I have to criticize admins that act out of line goes both ways when they do something right. I felt Aeyn’s decision to ban Voot was well within her discretion and proper in light of his decision to double down on his actions in the appeal. This is a very long running regular who has been playing on the server since 2012, nearly as long as I have. He knows a lot of donors and other regulars, and they came out to support him. This was undoubtedly, a decision that will permanently hurt her reputation and I applaud her for making it. I hope Voot comes to his senses in his appeal and everything goes back to normal.

I’ll throw down with any admin any time. But admittedly they get a lot right.

I'm currently muted in-server after I talked about it in-game for a total elapsed time of a minute or so... & stopped when asked to by an admin that was playing. (Meanwhile the chat talked about beastiality / animal fetish for 15 minutes, prior)

I don't say this as some "gotcha" statement, the cronyism and protected class system combined with the corrupt policing force shielding their ego and actions / doubling down on unserious moderation has caused skial to spiral into a state of decline that only has a chance of recovery if done by the chain of command itself.

No one else can do so, and it will only get worse until the point that it cannot be saved and the effects will spread to other factors of the server's longevity itself.

This isn't about the people trying to get some short-term gain from something happening to any one person, this is about quality control.

It's up to the people it's left in the hands of.

You are at the same crossroads I was on when I was diving in last year lol.

It is easy to state and detect when you see it occur, which I can understand. I've witnessed communities that swore to be the exact opposite and get this, end up with the same barriers.

There may come a time when the tables may turn, but how you decide will matter. Skial is genuinely a direct reflection of how the community has evolved. Admins here do what is best on the consensus of players in the server, and if they decide differently from yours, listen to understand. If you can't, then you wouldn't be ousted if disagreements were taken in solitude. You can still do that and acknowledge that you agree to disagree and move on without causing commotion. The best way to make a change (if so be it) is to make a suggestion. If there is a business strategy that you believe can help Skial improve, the floor is all yours.

Yesterday, I was playing on the Skial 2Fort LA server. After 5 minutes of transphobic comments and light usage of racial slurs, I was told to, quote "shut the fuck up" by a DONATOR (a donator is someone who gives money to Skial and therefore cannot get banned or silenced for anything. Essentially, they are gods)! I gasped aloud in my bedroom, and my mother called from upstairs (I'm between jobs currently, so I'm crashing in my parents' basement), wondering if my application to the local Dairy Queen was accepted. I shouted no, and that my gasp was directed to bigmoney420 on 2fort, as he told me to shut the fuck up. My mother went quiet.

Anyways, after regaining my bearings, I decided to respond over voice chat to call this donator, who should know better than to bully people such as myself, a "janny loving [REDACTED DUE TO FEDERAL FREE SPEECH LAWS]". Almost immediately after, I received an in-game notification stating that I was SILENCED. I let out another audible gasp. My theory is that bigmoney420, upon realizing he was a donator and could therefore do anything, called his favorite admin/butt buddy into the server after my initial anti-woke discourse. The admin, obviously believing the donator's lies and not checking chat logs, decided to act unjustly and silence me for 3 months (I might have been muted 16 times before, but again, these were unjust punishments).

I beg of you, Skial staff and players, to please look into your hearts and realize that donators should not be able to enjoy any privileges not available for use to the playerbase at large. In fact, upon donating to Skial servers, it is my belief that the donator should be rounded up and sent to a detention camp - preferably, one run by ICE. #justice #saveTF2 #adminabuse

Anyone can dig up something to try diverting, I wasn't aware of the given reason until later bc the source.ban portal is gone & apparently changed to some new site.

I made a thread in General (that got removed by admins) about Misty getting banned for criticizing the moderation / special treatment before this took place.

At no point above did I say "because I said (x) about Misty getting banned, this happened" nor was the passing remark remotely my point of concern when making the post above-
