"Skial: Being Stupid"

Lol he makes a youtube clip of the demo devin made, showing them breaking rules, and then complains when they are banned.

I personally like how you also named the video "Skail: Being Stupid." and then you go on to say you didn't mean any offense. Last time I checked calling something stupid is meant to show disrespect.

I think I already reiterated this once, but I will do it again. "Skial:" is the context and, "being stupid" is related to the contents of the video, it was never pointed at Skial as in terms of them being stupid, otherwise the title would be "Skial is Being Stupid." In actuality they two scouts were being stupid.

I made the youtube video due to the fact that many players won't download a demo, copy it to there tf folder, lauch tf2, and finally enter playdemo <name> and watch. The complaint was due to the wording of the rules, "...extended..." and I personally don't think 6 seconds in front of a sniper is "extended" and thus my post.

With all due respect, you are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too sensitive if you you're old enough to run your own server and can't stand curse words. Hell, I've even seen full blown "Christian friendly" servers that automatically spam bible verses in chat that allow curse words

Who said I can't stand cuss words, fuck I'm a 21 year old who works my ass off on a low end job and when I come home I get to listen to crying because someone didn't win at hale. Sigh. Anyone else feel better?

The idea as posted before was providing a fun gaming environment without going to the point of everyone raging because someone called me a "bitch". You are more then welcome to cuss, just not in chat or over the mic, which is pretty much the rule. Yes there are Christian servers, and sometime we are slotted as one, but we aren't. We just want to play and have fun, in a friendly environment without everyone cussing at Joe Blo on the other team for something.

To the question about the in game characters, we have not limited that and see it as part of the game. Pyro's "mother fucker" is actually quite cute and I have used it on occasion. Meh, I'm not trying to make everyone on my servers never cuss again, just to keep calm and hopefully have a ton of fun.

As a side note, many of the players come on here to Skial as well, including some admins of mine. Feel free to ask them there thoughts on it. Many will state they either hate the no cussing rule, don't care, or love it. In many cases we have been complemented for the no cussing rule, and that is just whom we are, and I'm proud of it. Also in many cases you all just cuss WAY too much. Its almost to the point that cussing is such a norm, that it really has no more "offensive" meaning towards it anyways. Its the new filler, like "uhhhh".

This thread was really uncalled for. We circlejerk a lot but at the expense of some else is low.

For fucks sake, people are gunna have different rules then us and opinions, they aren't gunna agree with us 100% of the time, and they will post their opinions, mainly SPUF. This guy didn't, he has his own community and he just discussed his opinion and what he was thinking on a topic. He didn't link his community to our forums or call out anyone, and look what the fuck we are doing. His thread was also not one sided, silverag was the devil's advocate offering the other side. Now look at us. We linked his threads singled him out, and we are bashing him for the lols, barely acknowledging his opinions or actions as valid. If anything is pathetic here is the way you guys are acting. He has his server rules, and he says it works. Power to him. He isn't doing anything wrong.

The saddest part is, he said he was actually jealous of the Skial Forums, which few people say cause of the douchery and the horribly image we give ourselves, and threads like these are why.

I'm actually pretty disappointed Bottiger made this thread, as I thought he knew better than this.

I'm calling into question the ban for the "Harming your team for an extended period of time." Which I disagree in the terms that it was "extended." Thus the end of my motives. If anyone wants to call out my community and wants to post it elsewhere, go right ahead. If I find it, I will take a look and see if I can resolve it.

Now to minding your own business part, I don't agree with you at all. I shouldn't be unable to post about another community for the simple fact that I run one. If I feel like something is wrong with Valves servers I have the right to post my thoughts on said subject.

I don't think Bottiger intended the discussion to turn out this way. He probably thought (as did I) that the person who uploaded it was one of the banned scouts. Which would be pretty funny...

There were two ways to go with this;
A) Bash him, call him dumb, criticize his rules, etc.
B) Shed light on why our community is run the way it is and why we have the rules we have.

Obviously the former took hold. Which frankly doesn't make Skial look any better. And personally I think our regs need to stop acting like Skial is completely infallible and immune to criticism. This is a gaming community not the holy Quran.

However some people have a point with the fact that another server owner made the discussion. It's not like we sit around pointing out ridiculous bans on Lotus, No Heroes, or other server groups. That would be stupid and petty.

As much as you want to make what happend into a harmless video, you posted that video to somehow show that skials admins aren't doing their job properly, and you are using a gray area in the rules to suggest so. You may be fancy with words but most of us can see what had occurred for ourselves.

It would have been different if you came out and directly told us that you and your friend have a problem with this ban and appealed it using the existing guidelines. Personally, I can tell you are capable of civility, I'm just picking on this incident.

I'm getting the feeling that the reason you even posted this vid to begin with is because you wanted to draw negative attention towards skial by making the admins look like power-tripping badmins while promoting your own community. I'm not saying that's a fact but that's just how I see it.

Yes, I am glad you can see what happened for yourself, and that is the reason and why I posted the video.

I also respect that myself not being the person whom is banned that it might be seem wrong or bad for me to make an unban request for him. Thus another reason why I didn't make the unban request for him.

Not at all, I have in the past had many cases where my gaming network has looked horrid, and in the end I hope it became fixed and resolved. I simply felt like bringing light to this particular ban request.

However, this is not always the case. As said earlier what is defined as "extended" is at the discretion of the mod. Just because Chuck thinks 6 secs. warrants a ban does not mean every other mod will do the same everytime a griefing case arises. By presenting this scenario in the way you did, you implied that admins all around skial do this sort of thing on a regular basis which is not the case. You knew full well what you were getting at when you posted this video along with that title. That's why everyone here is critisizing you so harshly, because you are making this scenario look worse than what it actually is.
