From what it seems like people are just upset once they realized that cheathappens.com is not a real hacking site so now they want to double down on their argument and claim that "FAKE HAX IS NOT OK TOO" and make a big deal about it for no real reason.
80% of the players who see this bind aren't dumb enough to think it's real, they know it's a joke. When I made the other thread I didn't think people here would be that dumb (I was wrong). Most of the time I use it when I kill a server reg/someone I know. The claim is that even with a fake site they will somehow seek out legit hacks. Do you really think I'm giving anyone any bright ideas they haven't already thought of? People who want to cheat at a game to win will come up with the idea all on their own.
I think promoting a cheat code site is hilarious. Imagine the angry nerds face when he goes to the TF2 section expecting to find some good aimbot or whatever and sees that there is no content. That is pure comedy gold and if you can't (or won't) admit how funny this is - well then that is just sad. There is nothing "malicious" about it other than making would-be hackers rage. And that's OK with me.
Apparently even having binds at all is somehow a horrific community example. Making people rage when you kill them is just completely wrong. Not sure if you're aware but Valve included
taunts in the game itself when they made it. People have had and always will have "taunting" binds in video games. Saying that admins shouldn't do this because somehow we will mass empty servers is pretty silly. By the way, most people don't know I am an admin or who any of the other admins are. To them we are just another player with a stupid bind.
If people were upset with my "cheathappens.com" bind they could have simply replied "Why would you do that mittens?" or "I don't think it's a good idea to say that." But instead you all acted like little children and just started name calling, talking smack in unmod, posting stupid gifs, and being generally dumb. (although there are apparently lower standards for non-admins)
The only people with anything of real substance to say are Tomatketchup and chuckwagon. There is something to be said for an overall view of Skial.
This has only suddenly become a big deal in light of the LMAOBOX hack and it's chat-spam advertisement. It's already been shown that hack advertising in general is not rampant or even a big deal. KillerZebra has used his Enhancedaim.com bind for a long time and nobody ever cared. Since LMAOBOX he has stopped using that bind. People have always used binds like "Aimbot: On", named their weapons "Aimbot.exe" and so on...
If you want to have fun with words and get technical about the thread title I can make a sister thread with different verbiage that would receive the same yes/no votes. And since we're being technical about it:
It's not advertising hacks if they're not hacks.
- We don't ban people for pretending to grief. We ban them for griefing.
- We don't ban people for pretending to exploit. We ban then for exploiting.
- We don't ban people for pretending to hack. We ban them for hacking.
- We won't ban people for pretending to promote hacks.
Back on topic
It's pretty unanimous from the community that hack advertising is
not ok. I've already shared my opinion about it in
this thread and there are already several well made cases against it there. I don't think anyone has a problem with banning those who legitimately encourage hacking.
TL;DR ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
