Republican fejits are the reason was shut down, because they hate Obama and didn't want ObamaCare to go into effect. They were fiddlebusting and everything. Fucking racists. Even threatening to close down the Lawrence Lab. I wonder how much unemployment is going to be here because of that.

Noone (important) likes Congress, they should all be removed and replaced. Though you know that won't happen.

The Democrats are equally at fault here since both parties couldn't get their heads out of sand long enough to reach a consensus.

You do understand that ObamaCare will be sponsored off the budget and taxpayers' money, don't you? You also do understand that in no way it will help in decreasing national debt, don't you?

Sounds like you want your country back. Stumble into the kitchen, get a shot of Ensure in you, take your pills, struggle to piss... you know, the morning routine.

I'll wait for you right here.

Did I drop off the dry cleaning? Yes.

Damn, gonna have to cancel that meeting today.

Oh there you are, nice to see you again.

ObamaCare will be mostly sponsored by the paid premiums, increased taxes for the rich, and by savings generated IN THE LONG TERM by the expected slower growth in cost of Medicare and Medicaid. From Yahoo Finance:

Here are some of the new taxes you're going to have to pay to pay for Obamacare:
  • A 3.8% surtax on "investment income" when your adjusted gross income is more than $200,000 ($250,000 for joint-filers). What is "investment income?" Dividends, interest, rent, capital gains, annuities, house sales, partnerships, etc. Taxes on dividends will rise from 15% to 18.8%--if Congress extends the Bush tax cuts. If Congress does not extend the Bush tax cuts, taxes on dividends will rise from 15% to a shocking 43.8%. (WSJ)
  • A 0.9% surtax on Medicare taxes for those making $200,000 or more ($250,000 joint). You already pay Medicare tax of 1.45%, and your employer pays another 1.45% for you (unless you're self-employed, in which case you pay the whole 2.9% yourself). Next year, your Medicare bill will be 2.35%. (WSJ)
  • A tax of 10% on indoor tanning services. This has been in place for two years, since the summer of 2010. (ATR.org)
  • A 40% tax on "Cadillac Health Care Plans" starting in 2018.Those whose employers pay for all or most of comprehensive healthcare plans (costing $10,200 for an individual or $27,500 for families) will have to pay a 40% tax on the amount their employer pays. The 2018 start date is said to have been a gift to unions, which often have comprehensive plans. (ATR.org)
  • A"Medicine Cabinet Tax" that eliminates the ability to pay for over-the-counter medicines from a pre-tax Flexible Spending Account. This started in January 2011. (ATR.org)
  • A "penalty" tax for those who don't buy health insurance. This will phase in from 2014-2016. It will range from $695 per person to about $4,700 per person, depending on your income. (More details here.)
  • A tax on medical devices costing more than $100. Starting in 2013, medical device manufacturers will have to pay a 2.3% excise tax on medical equipment. This is expected to raise the cost of medical procedures. (Breitbart.com)
Most of these changes don't go into effect for years anyway - so you don't necessarily have to worry about it for now.

Secondly, the CBO estimates that the increased tax revenue will outpace the cost of installing the program - in other words, the program will reduce the deficit (and in turn, hopefully, work to reduce the national debt) in the long term.

The government exists to provide services... something that is clear to more people now that many institutions and agencies that people rely on are shut down. The fact of the matter is that this giant reform is just that, trying to improve one of the least efficient, wasteful, and abused areas of our economy.

For once, our tax dollars are being used to improve the lives of citizens, instead of propping up a puppet government, or giving figurative reach-arounds to jingoistic war mongers by engaging in a constant military conflict.

Yes, the changes require some (a huge) cost up front.
Conservatives keep saying they want to run the government like a business, and to that, I respond:
"Gotta spend money to make money."
And that is what will eventually happen, if the reforms are successful.

It's like having 535 monarchs all at once, you know they are gonna get paid, but you know that they can choose not to do shit whenever they want.

Frankly, if the Republicans wanted to get rid of ObamaCare, they should have let it take effect. If it tanks, fight for its destruction then. If it works out, well, nothing's really been lost.
Would have made them look a lot better as opposed to causing this shutdown shitstorm over it.

If it tanks, fight for its destruction then.
It will cost billions of dollars to spin up this social program. Even opieman with his copy/paste work stated "Yes, the changes require some (a huge) cost up front." So good plan from you - throw tons of money in it, and if it fails - oh well... +/- a couple of hundreds of billions to national debt - who really gives a shit.

-wall of copy/paste-
I'm not even gonna bother getting into argument with you due to a couple of reasons. The main reason is when I see someone yelling "start taxing rich people more" - I realize that there is nothing to talk about. People like that do not understand how things work. I have seen communism, whose main principle was "take from the rich and give to the poor", my nation had been suffering from communism for 72 years, I'm not going back there again.
