Scarcely Lethal Noob
I like to go on the NY and the US Badwater 24/7 servers as the servers generally are full anytime of the day. With that said, since so many rounds are played in a day, eventually the map gets to counts of 100 wins to 100 wins or more, and the map begins to lag terribly. No, it is not me lagging. In Souce, maps that run too long without being reset or changed on a server begin to glitch out and lag for everyone after a while. Honestly, these maps need to be reset more often then once a day or however you all have it set up to prevent this lag. Maybe set a 3 hour timer for the maps to reset? I am not sure how other skial servers are set up, but these 2 servers could use it since they get so much traffic.

The servers get a lot of traffic because we take every effort not to reboot or reload them until absolutely necessary.

Every time a reboot or reload happens, people will leave, even causing the server to empty out.

We are already reloading maps every day and I did not notice any lag.

No, your servers get a lot of traffic because you've been around long enough to get enough regulars that fill servers, combined with a good server reputation in the Valve Quickplay system routing more quick-players to your servers. And actually, servers should be changing maps every 30 to 40 minutes for full optimization, however that would be impractical for a 24/7 single map server, and most of the time would not affect casual servers because they have map rotations. However it is still your call since you do run the servers. Empty servers is the worst feeling for server admins just trying to provide games for people, and I get that, but Skial as well as Lotus hardly have problems filling servers.

There are a bunch of weirdos who go for 1000+ scores so this might make them rage. Also does resetting the map really make that much of a difference? I don't have any problems with the way it is now so I don't see the point in changing it. Is there really any evidence that infrequent resets cause lag? Or is this just one of those things people say to avoid blaming their own internet or PC? I'm not saying that's the case I just want to know.

There is plenty of evidence to support memory leaks and server side problems with source engine maps running too long. If there wasn't a problem, you would never have to reset the maps ever, which you have to. I'm basing this off of running my own server and doing research into it, as well as the opinions of people who rent out servers for eoreality and nfoservers. I understand people blaming the server for their game experiences and indeed people do it, but I can assure you I am not. Bring up a server, play on it then let it sit there without resetting for a day and come back too it. You'll notice the performance impact.

And to make this all clear. All I'm saying it reloading the map, NOT RESTARTING THE SERVER. I can't stress that enough as it seems a lot of people seem to draw the two together in their responses.

You have no proof that is why our servers fill up. Every time the map reloads, some people just disconnect and never come back.

I don't really care what other communities do because our servers have been the most populated ones for about 2 years now.

If players leave a server because it reboots ONCE every five hours, then they need to get some fucking sun.

Isn't saying I have no proof for my "regulars filling servers statement" the same as saying you have no proof that the reason your servers stay populated because you do not reset as often? Just a thought. I see other 24/7 servers stay full a lot even with map resets more often then once a day, so it's an assumption to say your server stays full more often because of less resets.

I notice the same players playing day after day on the same servers. This is what a "regular" is. I'm not just assuming here, I know Skial has built up a community strong enough to fill servers. It's silly to say otherwise as you even pointed out, your servers have been the most populated servers for 2 years. What fills servers when they're empty? Regulars, random menu joins, and when the server gets to 6 to 8 players, Quickplay kicks in to help fill the rest. Not to mention the longer a player stays in the server, the more points the server is getting towards its own Quickplay reputation. I'm sure if you checked the reputation of your servers Bottiger, you'll notice most have a Upward Fast reputation.

Plus I'm not suggesting often resets, just resets more often then have been. I'd be happy with every 12 hours because that's twice as good as daily.

As I type this I checked your full Chicago Badwater server. Every player with a star next to their name is what I consider a regular as I've seen them not just once or twice on that server, but nearly every day or every other day I go on that particular server. And keep in mind, this is in the middle of the day on a Saturday. I could do this later tonight and possibly more then half the server will be full of players I would consider regulars:

As you can see, nearly half of the server is what can be considered a regular. Players that literally queue into your servers when they're full, and go out of their way to join them when they're not full. It's silly to think that these players would leave for a restart because they prefer your server. And they prefer playing with the same enjoyable players. That's a community. To suggest your community will leave you if you reset a map more makes it seem like the community doesn't care about your server, when they actually do.

How about once a day? At about 4/5am local time, depending on server location, for 24/7 servers?
Once every 12 hours means it has to reset at some point during the middle of the day, which will empty out players.
It's at least better than once every two days :)
