Sufficiently Lethal Scout

Hey guys, the first thing I thought of when I heard about the sandvich nerf was, "Man, I hope skial puts in a plugin to undo that.". I'm cautious in this opinion because I know I benefit from a good sandvich more than most players, but from what I've been hearing people generally dislike the change. Well guess what - a plugin exists to revert it.

The plugin is here. I'd like to get your input on this before I start badgering Bottiger to implement it. Should we get the old sandvich back?

Heavy requires a bit of thought and strategy, you can't just throw yourself out there or you get killed. Also I can't aim that stupid minigun to save my life.

But if he uses has a medkit (restore health), will the sandvich counter resets?
Only when he's already at full health. One point below and it'll just restore that health.
Heavy is overpowered already, takes literally no skill to play it and all his vanilla weaknesses were wiped out with the GRU and the Tomislav.
I've seen enough shitty heavies to tell you that it takes skill, at least as much as pyro, medic, and demoman (not counting the demoman's grenade aim difficulties). Not quite as much as spy. Also, I had never before heard about this rage over the Tomislav and GRU. I never used the Tomislav (well, okay, there was this one time, but really), and I'd rarely need the sandvich to make up for my GRU.

It does seem like it's more of a split issue, though, so I'm doubting this will be implemented. I'll just have to get a pocket medic to join me in every game.

:seriously:

Just saw Rvsz's new post, so I might as well run through some things. As a heavy:
- You can hardly move, so you need to know how to be where you want to be. This involves staying around corners, continuously backing up and moving around corners, running quickly and jump-crouching (crouching in midair) when passing through large areas to avoid snipers. You also need to try to get very close to slower players like demomen and soldiers when in an area where they can't run away, and you want to really avoid being mid-distance away from these players.
- You need to be able to watch your back, constantly. A heavy who looks in one direction only will get stabbed, killed by another heavy, sniped, etc. You have to constantly turn around and turn back every few seconds.
- You have to learn to use ubers right, running for the right amount of time before you switch to the minigun and spin up. Again, being able to trap players close to you is important - ledges do a lot for this, since you can't exactly run up to them with your speed. And you have to locate those f*ckn pyros with airblast and kill them before they get to you.
- You have to protect your medic, single out players that are attacking your medic and damage them first.
- You have to manage your health, you just can't keep fighting when you're down to 100hp, and should even be wary around 150. Your huge hitbox makes you the first target people try to hit.
- You have to single out targets, it does no good to do 50hp to everyone instead of doing lethal damage to one player. This means identifying the right target to shoot at, too - it's not always the medic. If a soldier or demo or heavy is about to kill you, you kill them first
- There are techniques for sneaking around corners and killing sentry guns without an uber, which I've seen very few heavies pull off
- You need to pick your fights, and know when to run away (slowly)
- Against scouts, you need to be able to quickly single them out and kill them before they run away. This means a fast reaction time, since three full-on shots will kill you at full HP. Four will probably do you in with overheal. Combine that with other players shooting at you, as well.
- Against pyros, you need to either hope they're W+M1ing you (in which case, just make sure your medic is staying back and they stand no chance), or keep an eye for them coming around backways. They don't pose a huge danger to you, but there's a large danger for your medic
- Keep an eye on where your team is, and provide them with cover by pushing ahead of them when they're low on HP

... need I go on?

How about we un-nerf the Dead Ringer? Natascha? Backburner?
Nerfed for a reason. I agree with the decision.

:yuno: Y u disagree with my post Cinic?

All I said was that it's a split issue, and that heavy does take skill, with ample supporting evidence.

But what if the Heavy drops the sandvich to restore health? Will the sandvich counter resets?

Yes, it no longer heals the heavy when he picks up his sandvich. It refills his sandvich ammo.

Twine: If this is your argument then you just proved my point.
You're not making sense. Can you explain? And I'm actually going to assume your reasoning is valid, since your number one weapon is Sasha.

This would most likely take us off Quickplay.
This would be a very good reason not to put it on. Would it really take us off?

Plus I mean, I dunno about anyone else but it puts a smile on my face when I come around a corner and catch a heavy eating his sandvich, I havent gotten to do that in years, its like Christmas!

Amen.
I will miss running in front of heavy while he throws his sandvich down for himself, taking it, and killing him, but.. Still. [Shrug]
