I was playing on Skial's 24/7 Hightower server and I had changed my name to something silly (Enraged Peace Medic) to play because a few people on the server were trying to get everyone to be friendly. Another player, whom had previously become very angry with me (name calling, skill questioning, etc.), changed their name to mine (Brom). Afterward he changed it to insults, because he had been votemuted as he found a way to communicate past the mute & gag. Some of these things include (beware, possibly offensive language) : LOL BROM SUCK MY DICK, BROM IS A FAGGOT, etc. Another player had also changed his name, again to something silly, and his name got taken too. And, same as before, he changed it to very offensive things to insult us through his mute & gag. Some of these insulting names are: KUILIN HAS A SMALL PENIS, KUILIN HAS NO TITS, etc. The person who was doing all the name-changing is called Hotfish, his steam ID is this: steamcommunity.com/id/mrhofish/
I would appreciate it if an admin put this troll in his place, so that my identity can remain what it should be; mine.
 
Ignoring trolls is the best way to make them butthurt
Though I have to say, if a troll steals an admin's name, it's considered impersonation (serious offense), so shouldn't it be also punishable for impersonating regs?

There's some real damage to be done to our player base if someone steals an admin's name. I don't really think it's a danger to Skial if someone steals my name, any admin worth their salt (read: all of our admins, even Zeebs' dumb fuckin' ass) would look at the Steam_ID and not the name if they were doing something nefarious.
 
Unfortunately steam have allowed people to use duplicate names. While this in itself isn't a crime, it can be exploited by people for a number of reasons. If people pretend to be someone else in conjunction with breaking the rules of our servers, they will get a harsher penalty imposed than by griefing alone.
Just the fact that someone imitates your name to wind you up, is not enough to warrant placing a ban on them. Admin impersonation is different in the way that a person is trying to give you the impression that they have some sort of control over you (stop doing that or i'll ban you), or trick you into a false sense of security (mostly seen in the case of scammers).
Steam might turn around one day and say its time for unique names, and then we will start seeing xXXMYNAMEXXx like on the Xbox. I personaly prefer it how it is now, and your friends always know who the imposter is, so it doesnt really do any damage in itself.
 
Yeah it can be bannable, assuming his name violates server rules, such as NAME is a n****, names s should still adhere to server rules, just as chat and weapon names, also, most communities prohibit making your name tje same as an admins, and trying to impersonate them

When someone like this is giving you problems, you can client mute them. When client mute, it blocks their voice chat and text chat so you can no longer see it.

Changing to other peoples names isn't something we ban for. Just for the fact we don't ban because two people don't like each other. Especially when there is an easy way both parties can solve it.

If this guy is breaking the rules, please report him. If not, than there is nothing we can really do. You just need to mute him, and you will be fine.

doesnt the !votemenu mute/gag do that but for everyone? he might not see the chat, but he will still see the name in killfeed, or on the scoreboard, or anywhere else his name might appear

pretty sure you guys have banned for excessive use of Faggot in chat, no reason that the same shouldnt apply to names
Racism and other insults to gender, religion and sexual orientation. Does not include discussion of why it is against the rules.
