Uncharitable Spy
I have just been on some server called "UberMe!" that had a very interesting feature during the humiliation phase...you could see friendly players through the wall. Although what the hell the point of it during that is I've no idea.

One of the things TF2 lacks is a mini map, which makes coordination very difficult. However, if you can see every friendly on your team it should greatly improve tactics and teamwork. For example you would know if tunnels where safe on Dustbowl, instead of having to ask if the engies had took them yet. You could see someone had built a tele in the enemy intel without the engy having to tell you 10 times. If you see an enemy scout running to intel you know if anyone is there to deal with him or whether to chase him. Also, seeing no friendlies are ahead of you and knowing you're basically the front line should make you a lot more cautious on attack and wait for backup.

If some people find it distracting then it could have an option to be disabled on their client, but I think this could really improve teamwork and encourage better tactical play especially on cp maps that suffer from people unwilling to push. Seeing that backup is in front of them could easily change that.

what about spies

and when you see one go away, you will know that an enemy just killed them, giving you the advantage.

The reason I play this game is because of the it being different from Battlefield and COD games. Asking for what you are is taking TF one step closer to them.

Very good point, can't believe that never occurred to me. Perhaps it could have a range limit put on so you only see friendly's past a certain distance, but don't see anyone in close range, then spies blend in with everyone else. Although this of course then makes approaching spies disguised as your team visible until they hit the cut off point. Perhaps there's a workaround that could make it work but I would need to think.

Highlighting allies would make spy unbalanced since people could then easily tell where a spy is if they see a shillouette turning on, off, or changing shape past walls.

How about if just friendly buildings are highlighted instead? You could still see if your team has advanced or pushed too far when they should be defending, and it wouldn't hurt spies.

for some reason I took the suggestion as "highlight all players who were being friendly"

ironically, this only happened the second time I read the title
