Reddit subscribers cannot be compared to the number of people who have signed up on Skial. Everyone on Skial has a verified email or Steam account. On Reddit you can sign up without an email.

Anyone who has used reddit for a while has noticed they are subscribed to a bunch of subreddits they never clicked join for. I think if you click on a story on the front page you will automatically get subbed if you did not specifically unsub for it. I bet most of the tf2 subscribers probably don't even know they are subscribed.
