From shredding possessed space-marines to pieces on the ridges of Phobos sporting a BFG-9000 to head-shooting noobs that scope in for the "perfec" body-shot, I have played them all, and I can only conclude one thing; I have learned nothing.

When I say I have played them all, I truly mean to say I have played about a fraction of all FPS that most gamers regard as worth playing. When I say I have learned nothing, I vaguely want to convey that I have truly learned nothing.

And yes, most gamers out there have an easier time playing a new FPS whenever they have played similar games before. But through my eyes, every bit of information that makes that new FPS that much easier is but a fraction of what one wants to get out of the game itself - skill.

What I mean with skill is better described as accuracy, or "good aim". After years of zealously playing video-games like a lunatic, I have no idea how to get "good aim", and it is simply frustrating. I know I have been able to statistically demonstrate "good aim", which is meaningless to me if I can replicate it consistently - statistically "good aim" will never logically imply "good aim" to me.

So here I wonder, confessing that which shames me greatly as I rhetorically ask these questions - How can one get "good aim"? Is it even possible to acquire "good aim"? Can I ever attain "good aim"?

As I near graduation day, I find less and less time to play, and I see "good aim" mockingly give me the finger as it walks away.

So now I ask those who care to answer - do you truly possess "good aim"?

Interesting. I'll admit, I'm no sniper. I'm no scout, or heavy, or battle engy, or shotgun pyro either. I usually end up using spray and pray antics.
While I do appreciate a good laugh, Roman, I feel as if this thread is serious business and deserves such serious attention.

It's hard to define "good aim" when most of the weapons have so much spread.

Having said that, did you happen to click my link?

A better question is why would you need it?

good aim ultimately boils down to the ability to anticipate where your target will be

this includes leading in modern FPS, not FPS like DOOM and whatnot

For both modern and old school FPS your ability to strafe while also anticipating where your enemies will be (whether or not they are always in a set place like in DOOM, or if they are likely to be around a corner like in TF2) the most rewarding in terms of feeling you have good aim

of course some people are just naturally talented at this sort of thing. twitch reflexes and all that.

lpN and I were on Q3A recently. Felt good to get back to those twitch-like shots I grew up with.

That's what I found out. On most "accurate" shots I am basically shooting where I "feel" the target will be, projecting the shot instead of moving the crosshair to match the target's location. For simplification, I am mostly talking about the first shot using a hitscan weapon (more relevant when using sniper rifles or ambassador), ignoring the rest of the spread.

So basically it comes down to a guess (an educated one, of course). In a way, this means I hit my threshold of accuracy a long time ago and I have been compensating using projection. I hit a ceiling and have nowhere else to go but down.

I bought a nice mouse, tried a myriad of mouse configurations for extensive periods of times and tested them all on different games. I am not sure much else can be done once you hit this "ceiling" I feel I hit.

I did and I giggled. Judgmental stares logically ensued (stupid school library is always packed).

just take risks and don't let yourself fall into a pitfall

if you're used to sitting in the back of the map sniping, move up a bit and put yourself under some pressure so that you might possibly improve as a result

I am actually a suicidal sniper. Nothing helped me better myself more than getting my ass kicked, so what you are saying is completely true on my experience.

On a separate note... where the hell are the heads of jumping/falling players on TF2!?

aim around the sternum area (or maybe just a little bit above) if they're falling, maybe a little bit above the head if they're mid rocket jump. You could probably get away with shooting directly at the head if they are normal jumping.

I'm not really a pro sniper though.

and as a serious note to your question, are you referring to your aim with snipers, or your aim in general? Because a trick many aren't aware of to get easier meatshots you aim at the leg because the legs are arguably the biggest hit box in the game.

Accuracy in general, but more noticeably headshots as either sniper or spy w/ ambassador.

Had no idea about the legs though, ty for the tip.

Ah, I don't play anything but scout, pyro, and soldier..so I can't help ya too much there ;/ I would say just do your best to line up your shots, and play more aggressively...practice with the bazaar bargain or the regular rifle, don't work on ambassador till you get good at quick twitching to people imo.
