If steam adds the ability to take money out of your steam account, paypal trading will have be obselite.

They didn't add the feature before you were able to sell stuff, so why would they do that now?

SteamWallet is essentially same as store credit which stores love. You give them $20 and they give you "$20" that costs them nothing until you actually use it.

I don't think this will kill Paypal trading since there's a 15% or more fee and you can't withdraw.
Moot point to anyone who actually follows PayPal's rules.

PayPal won't cover you at all since you're trading digital goods which is against their ToS. If you're selling items and accepting payments as Gift to avoid their fees is also against their ToS. PayPal has a 2.9% + .30 fee which is .35 on $2.00 as opposed to 15% of $2.00 which is .30 cents. I should probably remind everyone that asking the buyer to cover the fees is also against PayPal ToS.

I hope they don't add weapons/hats and the rest to the market or else that'll completely kill the economy. For the most part the economy is run by a price list, you will see varying prices between TF2Outpost, TF2Bazaar and trade servers due to the supply and demand at each of these locations. Now that Steam is offering their own trading hub, with real money and the guarantee that you won't scammed, I can see lots of traders dumping their supply on there and ultimately killing the market for everything as there won't be enough demand to clear it out. Considering the buyer pays the fee and you'll always receive your money, why wouldn't you list there?

So yeah, I hope they leave it as it is or else we'll be seeing some big changes in the economy. Either that or someone with a lot of money will just keep buying everything out themselves and have even more control than they already have over the market.

This is a great idea. I had only about 60 cents in my steam wallet, bought some paints with it!

I've never ever heard of anyone that has had their Paypal account terminated for doing this and that is why everyone does it. If they claim the item doesn't exist when a buyer does a chargeback, then I'm going to argue the item doesn't exist when they ask for a few cents in transaction fees.

They are also probably increasing the fee, and as you can see anything more than $2 would easily favor Paypal.

They will. A more efficient market means more buyers even though it screws over the power traders. The profit they get doesn't end up in Valve's pocket.

When will I be able to sell/buy unusual items?

Throughout the beta period, we will be making changes with the hope of adding more item types in the future.

This will never happen. Do you really think Valve wants to be further involved in the mass amounts of money laundering that they're already facilitating via Steam trades, as it is?

I hate to say it and you probably won't like it since you're an Admin, but that is a horrible way to look at it. Unless you're going to take responsibility for every single person on this forum and volunteer to give them any money they lose if and when their account gets banned, then you shouldn't be telling them to dismiss PayPal's rules.

Is it alright to beat my girlfriend since I haven't been charged with assault yet?

I'm just telling you what the unspoken conventions are as someone who has had thousands of Paypal transactions.

Avoiding an arbitrary rule that Paypal doesn't enforce != breaking a federal law.

It's pretty easy so far to buy keys for $1.15 and sell at $1.55, if someone wants some discount to top up their steam wallet for the Christmas sale.

My past experiences differ, I haven't personally been limited or frozen, but I do know people who have been which is why I personally don't sell TF2 items for PayPal and voice the rules.

I am aware that ToS and EULA are not law, but when they can freeze and essentially steal all the funds in your PayPal account, I don't see any reason to piss them off.

Hmm, max wallet size is €200...

If you're there now, may I ask what happens when you sell something that results in you going over?

I would hope it isn't lost or else Steam will have some serious complaints.
