My tips for betting in general:
1. Do not let the outcomes of previous games bias your outlook in current and future games. e.g. Gambler's Fallacy
2. Do your research prior and base your contingency plan on it. (This includes the house you're betting with and the teams you're betting on)
3. Be patient and practical. Emotions are useless in betting and will only serve to lead to poor decisions in most cases. Don't be so desperate for the win that you're willing to risk it.
Out of all of these tips number 1 is easily the most important. Most houses employ a number of psychological strategies such as the Near-Miss Effect to keep betters hooked on a system that gradually siphons money out of them and into the house's pockets. Make sure you take the time to look at every scenario individually with this in mind before throwing your money in.
