Declined Banning the word "Faggot"

I was told not to use the N word recently and immediatly after I someone said "faggot" and there was no punishment. I was told that the N word was banned because it creates a hostile environment. Obviously it might offend black people. That said, I was wondering why the word fag was praised as a substitute for stupid. Ergo, faggot should be banned.

TL;DR Faggot makes hostile environment = banned

You can say the word "faggot" in public. If you say the other one in public, you're likely to get the fuck kicked out of you, one is definitely not more offensive than the other. However, my previous points stand.

If you say the word "faggot" in front of me you're going to get a "shut the fuck up, cunt" right back. And I'm in no way the only one that goes for. It's a word that thoroughly leaves a bad taste in the mouth of anyone. And let's face it, most people use it to refer to somebody being gay...under the guise of "just an insult".
 
I think we've already had this discussion. Yes, we do not allow the "n-word", and perhaps we should not allow "faggot" either, but it's just a common insult, it's not really meant to degrade homosexuals, it's just like saying "bitch".
I use it myself, even though I am one of the least homophobic people around. But yeah, if we ban that word, then people will complain until we've banned every insult, and I don't think that is the kind of raging-overpowered-admin banning people here and there for a small misconduct like some of our rival communities.

It's not fallacy, the reason many people are using it, is because it's a legit argument in this particular circumstance. This isn't a workplace, this isn't a daycare center, most of the people on skial are adults (maybe not in age, but in mentality.) There is no reason to ban the word when we already have a rule that prevents it from being used in the homophobic sense.

Except people always, ALWAYS claim they don't use it in a homophobic sense and are just using it as an insult. If you use it as an insult, you're being homophobic, I do not give a fuck about what random "gangstas" who do not understand the function of pants who dilute the usage of it to being a simple insult. The damn reason it's an insult is that people are homophobic and think calling someone gay is supposed to be an insult.

If you had bothered to read my previous posts before posting your summation that I'm a bigot, you'll understand I concur that the words usage is incorrect. I will however say, one of the main reasons I like Skial, after you get past the players on it, I feel a certain freedom here so long as I don't take it overboard. There aren't very many other servers where I can tell an admin he fucking sucks and I'm better than him, and not get banned for my troubles. I do not use the word, nor do I ever intend to, I am merely stating it seems ridiculous to add yet another rule when we already have one in place that defends from that particular instance. You really think someone saying "BACKBURNER FAGGOT" merits admin action? I don't.
 
Well normally when someone calls someone a faggot on my server, We just tell them we aren't Cigarettes. That shuts em up vast majority of the time.
 
To me, I wouldn't exactly ban the word. However, if someone says faggot under any circumstance the admin should be able to punish the player for it. Thus the admins are able to determine themselves whether it was used in a server-hurting way without any reppurcusions (or however you spell it).
 
I've seen so many people turn a simple round of.. whatever, into a hostile environment without using "Fag" or the "N" word, It's just words, but people who let things get out of hand is what empties a server.
Anyone who would get called a "fag" or any other word that revolves around homosexuals but turned into insults, would get upset, I'm not much of a talking in game but haven been called one and has at a time, been frustrated enough by bullshit said it to myself in my head, to avoid having any contact, let alone causing a hostile or trolling environment.
I can't say, "People should just get over it and ignore that shit" as much as I wish people would be like that than this community wouldn't fear drama and shit-storms on a daily basis.
I don't want anyone to think the purpose of my post is to say, "blame the person who reacts" It's not.
Too many things can be said that would piss someone off, but banning the word won't solve it.
Just Gag the jackass who says it.

Edit: Personally having someone harass someone or myself, I find it better to target that person, cause obviously someone trying to start shit need their shit kicked in.

I don't think banning specific words is the right way to go about this. It's all based on context and we would literally have to ban everyone since most people in gaming use that word on occasion. I agree with what Gigz said.

Edit: I'm also locking this thread for the time being. We can talk about this privately among admins if we want.
