I seriously can't believe Zeyk's taking the hit for this.
Especially since he wasn't the person how initiated most of the votes.
Also, Doctor Who was
participating in the server shenanigans. This is highly hypocritical of him to report Zeyk. Yes, he was there for a few of the votebanning of the randoms. He did
not say anything nor try to stop anyone. In other words, he had no objections because he too was having fun.
Furthermore, the randoms
did not communicate with us. We gave each one
fair warning (at LEAST 3-4 people telling him to stop repeatedly over a few minutes).
Next, the votebans are
only 30 minutes long. The whole reason anyone votebanned at all was due to the fact that it's such a short expanse of time, by which time we should have already finished up fooling around or neared completion. It isn't like we're banning them for an extended period of time, which is why we felt it as an appropriate punishment. There are many (MANY) other servers they shouldn't have a problem with switching to for a mere half an hour.
Lastly, how is the fact that the
complete majority of the server approving the vote not a valid reason for banning? While there are no rules stating that they don't have to fool around with us, there are
no rules saying we have to play "properly," capturing the points and killling people efficiently. This is a videogame, the prime intent and purpose of it being having fun.
I play sniper. I play a good sniper. As such I tend to piss quite a few people off. If 3-5 people on the other team aren't having a fun time because either the heavies can't move 2 feet without dying or their snipers never get to kill anyone while I'm there, how is that better than having all but 1 person on the server having a blast in an all melee festival? I'm effectively ruining the fun of some people. You can ask Captain Falcon or Cody, they will say it really isn't as fun as it should be when I'm doing that.
Why aren't I being banned for griefing? Is it because I'm griefing in a way that's ACCEPTABLE?
The point is, whether it'd be an
All Engie Defense or a full scout rush, the very definition of "griefing" is something that
ruins the fun of the MAJORITY. Yes, it is childish to consider "fun" as a reason but because there are no rules saying you have to play the game a certain way, it is the one thing you must uphold. Shit, if Skial didn't want to uphold fun then there's no point playing on their servers over others.
We talk a lot on the servers. Socialize, make fun of each other, trash talk, try to ignore Doctor Who being an annoying jackass 80% of the time, but
it wasn't until now that I actually heard people state how god damn FUN it was to play on the server. Half the server was saying things like "this is the greatest server of all time, being able to do things like this." This is the first time I've heard it on Chicago Server. The previous times were back when I played on the Los Angeles Dustbowl Server.
A personal anecdote: shown in the Full Engie video, a lot of us adopted the "PyroCrab" clan tag. The reason why we adopted it was because of this one time our entire team went pyrocrabbing across the entire map. Sure they killed us at first, but then they did the same thing. 24 Pyros crabbing across the entire map. It was indescribably awesome. From then on, if someone did something such as initiate a huntsman-only fest, people (EVERYONE) would participate. That was when I heard things about how the server rocked and how cool it was everyone's chill enough to participate.
If Skial really wanted the players to have fun (collectively, not individually), if Skial really RESPECTED the players' wishes (collectively, not individually), if Skial wants to be successful as a server hosting chain, you can't punish admins for upholding this. Because it's these moments in TF2 that are actually worth playing.
