Why should you be unbanned or unblocked?:
Why I am hoping the ban can be removed:
I had been a regular player on Skial 2fort EU servers 1, 2 & 3 for some months now and then one day back in June I was banned for some reason.
I initially looked up the reason on-line and the reason was stated as `LINKED: New STEAMID from banned IP 2.96.125.105`.
Now I am not very technically minded and I have never have any previous bans. I don`t log on through any other internet sources and I only have one Steam ID (http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198083804184/) which I have used continuously used since I started using Steam back in Feb this year.
Other than that I am unable to give you an explanation as to why I have been banned and I was hoping you could either inform me of what this ban means or lift the ban if possible please.
I look forward to your response in due course.
Many thanks

Shane

The original ban was this guy:

He was banned for an aimbot.

I would also like to ask, there is another user that was banned from a Linked Steam ID from this IP.

Can you provide any insight onto which account this happens to be as well.

Hi Void,

Thanks for responding to my message so quickly.

I have absolutely no idea who the other two accounts are. I first stared playing TF2 when my friend got me into the game back in February which was shortly after I had just got broadband set up in my new place.

I note that these 2 players committed these offences back in Dec 2012 both in a short period of each other.
I have been playing on Skial servers pretty much constantly since I started playing TF2 which I am sure my stats will reflect and there is little interest for me in the game without being able to play on your servers.
I cannot give you any explanation as to why my ip would be connected with these two other Steam accounts, I don`t have much knowledge when it comes to internet connections and can only assume I have been playing with the same ip all this time. The only gap in usage of the internet was when it was disconnected about 3 months back but restored about a week and a half later when the bill was paid.
Other than that I really have no idea how this has happened but I assure you that I have never used an aimbot and have no interest in ever doing so.
I would be grateful if you could allow me back onto the Skial servers.

Thanks

Shane

The other two accounts have purchased games, with a good amount of time played. The only thing I can think of is this is an alt, but given the connection time, I find it unlikely.

Hmm, are you sure no other users used/connected to your broadband? Did you set a password on it, or is it public so that anyone could connect?

There's not much else I can do here, so hopefully an Admin will get in here quick to help you :)

I have purchased a game too: L4D2
I note that those players also like to change their nicknames a lot where as I have never changed my nick.
The steam account is connected to my Facebook profile where you can see my name is also Shane in RL and I note the other players in the list name no personal information.
I own a PS3 and play most of my games on console, mostly BF3.
I only started using the internet with the PC when I moved at the beginning of the year.
What would it require for me to do to convince you that I am telling the truth as this would be a pretty elaborate scam to set up all this information with personal information connected to my account just to get unbanned from a server?
Would reporting the other two accounts through Steam make any difference?
Also I would be grateful if you could explain if the ip was banned why was I able to play between when I started in Feb and when I was banned in June?
Thanks for your assistance.

Shane

No there are no other users connected to the internet, the two kids are too young to even use a PC.
I wouldn't know how to set a password on the internet.
I think there is a serial number/key on the side of the modem though, I thought that made it secure?

Thanks

Shane

If that is the case (that you haven't secured your wireless router), you have been making your neighbors very happy because they are able to piggyback on your connection. First thing, visit the FAQs on the website for your router manufacturer and learn how to secure your wireless signal.

ah ok, thank you I will do that first thing tomorrow and let you know when that has been done.

Appreciate your assistance evryone.

Hi KillerZebra,
I always play at home on the desktop, I live in an apartment in a block of flats in close proximity to 2 other blocks and a couple of houses.
There is no computer access at work.
opieman2010,
I went on my providers website and I noticed that I am using the universal username and password.
I have now followed the instructions to protect my router with a unique p/w and this should hopefully prevent any future intrusions to my network.
Thanks for the help.

Well your steam id seems clean and i don't see anything solid that links these two accounts to you.

I will unban you, but before I do, i need to be sure no one else can access your router. You need to password protect your router, when you do please let me know and i will unban you.

Hi KillerZebra,
I can confirm as per opieman2010 instructions above I have logged onto my router and created a unique password for my account and according to my providers FAQ page this should prevent any further intrusions to my network going forward.
Thanks very much for agreeing to unban me.

Shane

I am only commenting further because I would hate for you be be banned again - please make sure you have two passwords:

  • one to access the router or access point - this allows you to adjust the settings on the router, as well as set the security for the network
  • one to access the wireless network - this is the password that a new device would need in order to access the wireless network, i.e. the password a laptop or phone would need to access a locked or secure network
An easy way to see if your network is secure is to search for it with a wireless-capable device - in the search field, you should see your network ID and some sort of lock symbol.
Per KillerZebra's warning and past history of how IP bans are handled (something I personally support as a player), I wouldn't want to see you banned again for lack or inadequate security. If you have any further questions, your internet provider should be able to help you.
