Hey Skial,

I just noticed that I got a permanent comm-ban for abuse of the voting system. I've never caused any trouble before, and mostly I try to assist with players that are causing major disruption to the game. I see that JeffPigeon posted an Appeal: http://www.skial.com/threads/appeal-jeffpigeon.44592/ and KillerZebra said that he'd teamed up with me to pass votes. I do recognize how bad this looks, but I can honestly say that I was only trying to silence people who were being unreasonably disruptive (spamming). I wouldn't use the votemenu to get revenge on players, nor would I use it against people who "don't want to melee". I'm not friends with JeffPigeon, it was more of an interaction of convenience. I wouldn't target someone for not wanting to melee, and if I started a vote against someone, it was only because of spam or racism. I apologize for my role in abuse of the voting system if it targeted players unfairly. I do think that I was a bit overzealous here, and I'm very happy to limit my actions to console-mutes in the future.

It was very obvious that you and pigeon were teaming up to ban people.
 
Right, and I see how it looks, but potato was spamming the mic as well. There were 3 or 4 kids running around with their mics on full tilt, but with alltalk off, we couldn't get the other team to help us quiet them, so I turned it on. When everyone could hear how much they were using their mics, it felt like the rest of the server finally understood about how spammy these players were, and we could finally get the votes to silence them. I don't remember clearly, but it could be that I turned to votemenu-ban instead of mute/gag because of the cooldown. I was just feeling very frustrated, and I think I let my frustrations cloud my judgement. It was my error in judgement and I apologize. This certainly won't happen again.
 
Now I'm really confused, because there was a lot of really annoying mic chatter. Could it have been because alltalk was off for a lot of it? I absolutely would not have been calling a vote without some sort of disruption. If this is more of a case of "someone was being annoying on the mic, not worthy of a mute", I can understand. I feel very chastened.
 
The "we" JeffPigeon is referring to does not include me. I never knowingly helped to ban anyone who didn't want to melee. Like I said, the Chat Logs do look incriminating, but they don't include what came out of the mics during that time. I did say that we should mute potato, but it wasn't planned. When it happened, I wasn't thinking "Oh, let me team up with this pigeon person and ban people". It felt more like whack-a-spammer. I believe I said "next target spotted" after Potato began spamming his mic. You do see other people typing "STFU" and "just mute him" etc into the chat.
 
Just because people say "STFU" and "just mute him" doesn't mean the person is mic spamming.

People saying "just mute him" didn't mean votemute, they meant client mute. If someone's annoying you personally you can just press escape, click the ear, click the person's name, click "mute ingame voice" and then get on with your life.
 
Fairly put. Like I said, I believe I made an error in judgment, and I will absolutely refrain from calling votes in the future. I'd thought what I was doing was for the good of the players on the server as a whole, but I may have overstepped my bounds. I'm not an admin and I shouldn't try to mete out punishment on my own.
 
I also see my error in judgement, and it's been a long time, is there a chance to remove my ban as well?

I just posted up a demo of a hacker who I couldn't use the votemenu to kick out.

You'll more than likely want to make a new thread asking for an appeal. piggybacking onto someone else's appeal isn't going to end well for you.
