Another failed DDoS attack

There was another failed DDoS attack on the Egypt server today. It started 40 minutes ago and lasted for about 20 minutes. It caused a brief moment of lag for servers US1 to US13.

Possible suspects

This happened on the Egypt server shortly before people started complaining about lag.

Client "I Slay Purple People" connected (208.191.152.81:27005).
STEAMAUTH: Client I Slay Purple People received failure code 3
Dropped I Slay Purple People from server (VAC banned from secure server
)

These people were blocked from joining shortly before the attack started.

Do you have any advice for a more successful attack? This is all hypothetical, but say my friend wanted to knock out a server for a while, how could he do it more effectively?
 
This person seems butthurt. He tried to attack US1-13 again.

And probably attacked the Chicago Dustbowl server with an ICMP flood which will now be firewalled.

also the EU VSH server was getting farted on yesterday, all pings went up and some of the spikes made the red server crash text appear a few times. i suspect that would be an attack as well.
