Not gonna beat around the bush, this is about 1 map. Now, I don't have a problem with the map I enjoy it quite often but it is the most polarizing map in the rotation by a wide margin and it has gotten worse recently. It encourages a different type of gameplay than any of the others and the coalition that loves it has been overwhelming the ones that hate it recently. I'm seeing frequent players just flat out leaving right after they get there when it comes up because they are so sick of it. One more cooldown period would give them some breathing room without a major change as few maps get voted again right off of cooldown. I present this as someone who does NOT hate the map, would never suggest removing it, so hopefully you take it with a little more credibility. I just want a more balanced experience for people on the server, and don't like seeing quality frequent players not coming around as much anymore because they are sick of one map.
I know, "democracy", "why don't people just vote for other maps" etc. Generally I agree with that 100%. In this specific case it's not like other map votes. It really is the 1 against the rest most of the time and the rest gets spread among 3-4 choices. It's going to still be a top 1 or 2 voted map, just a little more breathing room would be helpful.
An alternative solution, if it's possible, is to do a 50% threshold for map votes. If no map gets 50%, do a runoff vote of top 2. Then you have a TRUE democratic vote. No more 27% wins for a map that 50% slam their mouse when it wins. (happens a lot)
Another thing that would help diversify the map selections is to add new maps suggested particularly spaaaaace and livingroom remastered (ik spaaaaace isn't new, but it's new to me and would love to play it.). When maps are added they get a buzz on the server. Even nintendo was fun for a month and it's objectively awful, lol. I voted for it a lot for a while and now I never vote for it. Even bad new maps are fun while they are new. Adding/changing up new maps are important to keep the community interested but it seems to be low priority on the vsh server and it baffles me. Should be changed at least a little bit every season imo, perfect timeline. This rise in map selection imbalance could be the sign that the pool is getting stale. Adding rockslide and dirtmound back and removing shrine and reservoir would be good moves to change things up as well imo. Also, maybe let the top few players in the season rankings choose the next season's new maps from an approved pool. Give the rankings some tangible rewards.
