As Roman said, it's been done a million times. MS has two types of licenses, OEM and retail, and OEM and retail disks are identical except for Windows 7 Basic.
Quite possible. I'm not arguing on that one. I said what I had experienced, but I believe now that my issue was caused not by the fact that I tried to use OEM license with Retail build, but with the fact that my motherboard was replaced since it had fried. That's probably why retail version was not taking my OEM license.
I'm not reinstalling OS's on a daily basis - my job is to prevent them from crashing :) But I personally prefer to stay away from OEM licenses since vendors usually equip their laptops/PCs with shitty editions. Home Premium edition is a shit. I do have VLK for Windows 7 Professional, and that's what I use. Or... -OR-, some pirated Ultimate when it comes to installing OS to my friends' PCs.

Forgive me for being a noob, but why does the edition of WinShit 7 matter? Do Ultimate or Professional have something Home Premium doesn't have?

Most lists also neglect the "Boot from VHD" option that's found in 7 Ultimate and Enterprise.

Well then. Not much I'd use, but still, that's pretty insane.
It BSoD'd when I tried to register, trying again.
Oh, and Perfmon is lying. I have MSE installed.

Assuming you DID reformat...

HARDWARE PROBLEM.

TEST YOUR RAM.

TBH I agree with Roman. BSOD can often be the result hardware issues. Quite often blown capacitors are to blame. Check all the caps on your board (cylinder looking things). They should have perfectly flat tops. If you see any that have rounded tops, or are leaking, theres ur problem :p

I had blown caps on my Abit KT7A... I loved that board... So sad...

Well he did use MemTest86 originally, which is 32-bit. He's got 4GB of RAM. Not a huge deal there, but the kid caught crap over using the OEM recovery partition, and the problem persists.

Try the RAM. One stick at a time.

I'll be able to check this in an hour or two, I still have to reinstall my GT 520. L4D2 + Integrated graphics = DO NOT WANT.
