Why should you be unbanned or unblocked?:
Evening,

Earlier today I was playing on Skial ORANGE+ US, when I got randomly banned by the Console for "SMAC 0.8.4.1: ConVar sv_cheats violation". As far as I know I haven't broken rules or modified my client, and it seems to be an error.

Ban was for RGB Input.

That's a bit frustrating, as Skial ORANGE is my most frequented server. I'll try to do some research on the exact issue with "SMAC 0.8.4.1: ConVar sv_cheats violation" and what it means. Perhaps find examples of the same error. Is there any way I can provide more evidence?

Well, if you can find a credible source stating a known RECENT bug with SMAC, we would look at it. But I can't say anything would change.

No, everything is default. I haven't touched the client in any way, that's why it's strange. I'll try to find something by tomorrow, but currently I have to go to work.

I'm not sure, but if he played on a server with "sv_cheats" enabled, wouldn't it force this convar be changed on the client side as well? Isn't there a possibility?

no. his client was caught trying to FORCE the server to use sv_cheats 1 on him, allowing him to use an unfair advantage against other players

I mean with technology a lot of things are possible, but connecting to a Skial server should force sv_cheats back to 0 since it's not allowed, unless a hack instructs otherwise.

If you join a server with sv_cheats enabled and you have this plugin installed, it will ban everyone who joins the server.

However, this plugin forces sv_cheats to 0 when you connect to it. Then it checks all the client side cvars. The only possible way, as previously stated, is a hack. There is no other way to trigger this detection. We have not seen this kind of banned over ruled yet by anyone, including the guy who made it.

Christ, this seems hopeless.

Anyways, I'm somewhat new and not versed in Source, VAC, or SMAC. From what I understand my client-side variables did not match the server-side variables, specifically the 'sv_cheats' variable. Skial ORANGE+ uses critical hits and low gravity, which should change 'sv_cheats'. Apparently the only way to trigger the ban is to run hacks through a third party plugin or application that forces 'sv_cheats' to a different value.

I downloaded the client and haven't messed with any third party programs, nor modified the game files in any way at any point in time. I've never had problems with any other server, and this is the first time I'm being banned pretty much anywhere. I'll try to compile a list of similar cases as that's all I've been able to find so far.
