Pokemon X and Y

I stick to Pokemon generation I and II, at least the Pokemon looked pretty nice back then, when generation III rolled around, I was concerned, they started making them one foot tall and try to make them look as cute as possible.

Completely unrelated to pokemon x and y but I was planning on playing a pokemon game for the first time in my life on emulator on my phone now what I would like to know is are all the pokemon games the same as in you can pick up and play any of them without missing storyline from previous pokemon games and what pokemon game should i get it can be ds or GBA

Alright here is all of the information I have gotten so far:

New type: Fairy (which the new Eeveelution will be)

The professor's name is Patrice; odd how this will be the first professor that isn't named after a tree.

1st Gym: Bug
2nd Gym: Fairy
4th Gym: Fighting

The fire starter's second type is psychic.
The grass starter's second type is fighting.
The water starter's second type is dark.

Mawile's type changes from Dark to Dark/Fairy.

They will be introducing attacks that now are dual-typed.

There will be one new electric attack that will leech health from the opponent.

New form of battling called "Sky Battles". Basically, only Pokémon that are flying type are allowed (also if you have levitate, your Pokémon can participate too).
