Scarcely Lethal Noob
It's very simple, if someone drops F bombs on someone else, it's a problem. Aside from swearing itself being wrong, it can lead to people telling each other off in on going trash talking. In text or in chat, nobody that is hearing it will like it. At first you might say, then mute him/her. Practically nobody does that and muting a person only does 3 things. First, we leave the swearing unpunished. Second, because it's left unpunished everyone decides it's ok and that allows for more annoying trash talking via text and chat. Thirdly muting someone takes a while off playing the game which mostly nobody cares to do so, even if it annoys them. For example today, people at Thunderstorm Texas server were trash talking on text and as a result 2 people left and said "You see this is what happens in unmonitored servers, I'm out". If we punished swearing. People will do it less, people will be more polite and less problems or people leaving because of the trash talking in Skial servers.

Let's face it, we don't swear to people for no reason, we do it because were angry and we want to harm people. It's immoral and only causes more problems.

Less swearing less over-all problems. Thank you for reading.

Hey buddy thanks for the feedback.

Unfortunately swearing is not against the rules, the game is rated M for mature. It would be kind of silly to ban people for that. Sadly, it is the internet. And there is no possible way to ban everyone for swearing or being mean. If we did, the servers would be emptied, and skial would cease to exist.

There is an easy way to mute someone client side, please look here
http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Voice_chat#Muting_players

When you do this, it blocks their voice and text from your client, so you cannot see them at all. You are happy, they are happy, and everyone can keep gaming.

As for the trash talk, it is pretty much the same thing. We don't ban for it since the game is rated M. However there is a line, if people are being racist, sexist or anything overboard, we will put a stop to it.

Feel free to add any admin if there is a problem

Just be sure to client mute like i mentioned above, and if someone is breaking our rules, please let us know.

Surprisingly enough Zebra was the only non-hostile post to this guy. Ok, we don't ban for it, and Ok I curse a lot - does that mean just because someone comes to the forum to make a complaint however unlikely it is to be acknowledged you have to post insulting pictures, or make rude comments?

Why must everyone be so hostile to new people on the forums simply for posting an opinionated request?

Hey Killer Zebra

About swearing, I meant when it's done specifically at people. Like if Bob gets killed multiple times by Andrew.... Bob via text and chat starts saying trash.

I've been playing on Skial servers for a while now. Not exactly sure but for months, maybe a year. Swearing at people has been done by a minority. A hand-full of people usually start trash talking. Most people are quiet actually... and it's a minority that even talk via chat or text. So no Skail servers would definitely still be up full of gamers except... Skial servers would have gotten rid of some of the problem makers.. driven them to other servers. Those servers that accept this kind of behavior would have to deal with them and make Skial look and be a better option for gamers in general.

I would mute them, but I choose not to, I tell people to not talk like that. It's not necessary and people do listen...sometimes. I'm not a mod or an admin but some people do listen to reasoning. I once saw a text saying "niger"... and I said via chat "Look you don't have to talk like that, it's crossing the line and I will report you for racism, I'm not trying to be a jerk but next time you say something like that I'll report you ok?" The results? He didn't say anything like that anymore. I'm sure if there were African American people on the server, they would've likely appreciated it. But what about swearing at someone? Swearing at someone is hurtful to anyone, not just African-American people. If someone talks trash about yourself, your not going to like it.

Banning people for swearing will clean the servers and make Skial a more peaceful place.

Also, I really don't see how being on the internet makes it ok cuss someone out. That makes no sense. I think we should be polite to everyone, nomatter how your communicating. Thank you

Biggest issue is Skial can't be so strict, cursing is pretty common these days IRL or online, particularly moreso online. Racism is never ok, but bitching/moaning after someone kills you, or talking trash - it's just part of online gaming.

As for trashtalk, I can't imagine banning for trashtalk in a game where the characters talk trash for you when you dominate someone.

Banning any kind of insult would just empty our server. I haven't seen that anywhere except on those "strict" call of duty servers where admins are basement-dwelling power-abusing douches

That's sorta scary... that you said "I can't imagine banning for trashtalk" I can easily imagine it. Trash talking.. or being trashed talked to, watching someone trash talk someone is messed up. It's harmful. Racism is right next to trash talking, just that it's a different kind of trash talking.

I think Izzy is forgetting that he's playing a game in which the characters you play as swear frequently.

The bottom line is that banning for cussing will both empty out all of our servers, and be impossible to enforce.

We might as well ban custom names, or tongues.

We aren't SLAG. They have filters for that and it gets annoying. If it wasn't for their custom content not many people would be on there.

@ Toxik and Cyclosis aswell... what I'm suggesting is swearing at people. Like people swearing at other people specifically.

About the servers being emptied... I doubt that. I've beeing playing on Skial servers and most people are actually quiet, few talk via chat or text. Then among those who talk, few of that group are the ones who swear at other people. To give a good guess, there's less then 5 people who swear at each other every hour from my experience, sometimes escalating into worse trash talking that just bothers people, even makes people leave.

Anyways, I'll leave it at that.

Izzy, you have to be realistic here. TF2 is a competitive game. With competition comes defeat, and with defeat comes frustration.
Now tell me, what's the most common way to vent your frustration on people with no means of physical contact?
We simply can't begin issuing bans for reacting to the direction of a game.

If it really bothers you that much that you'd continue to fight for it, go to an office supply store and purchase a package of sticky notes.
Place a sticky note over the lower left corner of your screen. Problem solved.

Or you can use the sticky note widget on windows 7

I like how Zebra is nice here. Are you seriously like 10 years old? People swear all the time (hell, I work in a professional office and people swear ALL THE TIME) In game people are going to do it more so. It can have its limits, but honestly if you're going to be online you're going to get this everywhere.

Zebra was immersed in a womb of reefer at the time of posting that.
