I really don't feel this issue needs much elaboration, because we've all witnessed threads in the support section being derailed or otherwise defiled.
It only takes a few members posting unnecessarily in a thread or being deliberately counterproductive or offensive to leave a sour taste in a newcomer's mouth when they come to the forums for assistance or to apply for an admin position. Generally when a player comes straight to the support forum, they're already frustrated or distressed, and a select few members turn them away before someone capable of assisting them notices the thread. They then of course go tell their friends or post in other communities about how awful we are, which is a very difficult reputation to get rid of.
Due to the fact that there are more poorly composed members sulking about the forum than moderators that can enforce the rules, I believe this has become more than a small issue. The one section where we can't afford to look bad is the one that gets vandalized the most.

The severity of the punishment and the point where it is enforced is open for discussion. I personally think infractions on the forum should carry over to the servers, as well.

tl;dr - Keep the support section clean, because that's where people go when they have problems on our servers.

This suggestion has been implemented. Votes are no longer accepted.
+1 for heavier moderation in the support section. unless it's KillerZebra

Also, what is your reason for wanting forum infractions carried over to the servers?

It's probably a bit over the top, but you can live with being banned from the forums. From the servers, however.. People might actually start caring about following the rules.

I suppose I should elaborate that only breaking rules in the support section would result in an additional server ban. If it isn't already obvious, I really don't like it when someone who just wants an explanation for their ban to get such a violent response. Maybe I've just seen one too many anti-skial circlejerks on r/tf2 and figure they're completely preventable.

There's no automated way for forum bans to go over to TF2 bans, so that would be a PITA. I'm not sure if the previous discussions we had on this were public, but I think we were planning on doing this anyways (in the form of locking report threads as soon as they're resolved.)

I agree to a certain degree. I don't want this to mean the second someone incidentally goes off topic they get punished, but people who tell people who post bad admin apps to "fuck off" aren't really helping the situation.

If you have a valid reason why the person should or shouldn't get admin, post it - if you don't..don't. I'm fine with that being enforced so +1

What? You mean when someone files an unban request and eight people spam the dumb and troll rating on him, it's not ok? Gee, I had no idea.

Seeing as we have a section where the entire English vocabulary is for play as is everyones opinions, say +1. It makes sense. We have unmod which is sort of a bilging station for the shit we all produce, might as well keep the forums clean and productive. I'll say it again

Well, back on topic.

+1, I've seen enough of faggots posting/derailing stuff that shouldn't be derailed. Skial is strict, but we haven't enforced some of the rules too often, unless it involves a regular.

Auto-locking the thread when a resolved or invalid prefix is added would be the greatest thing to do. If not, just do what Cylosis said.

inb4 hate mail codemning me for deleting offtopic posts and lock, but not Isil's Bottiger-Hitler mashup. We'll try to do this more. If people complain, we post Hitler pics. I don't think any one of the mods will say "YEAH WE'RE GOING TO MODERATE THIS LESS"
