I can't wait 'til college.

Especially since we don't fucking have any in Sweden, go universities. Wooh.
While I call it college, technically I went to "Central Connecticut State University" I honestly don't know if there's a difference between a college and university.

it's basically the same thing. Most Europeans and some parts in Asia refer to it as University

In American, college is a more general term, and university is though of as higher-tier college.

So I'm going off to college next year, and I have a few questions for those of you who are currently attending or have completed your higher education:

1. What's something you brought that you never needed?
2. What's something you DIDN'T bring that you really wished you had?
3. How did you manage your time?
4. Got any good money-saving tips?
5. Anything else I should know

1. i cant really think of anything i brought that i never needed (other than a comb)

2. More underwear and socks! don't be fooled, these items of clothing normally determine when it is time to do laundry. Also, i wish i had a big trash can. me and my roommates didn't care, and only had 4 small trash cans for trash. needless to say, i got fed up with having to empty a small trash can every day, cause only one of them got used, and went to buy a big one.

3. Studying? who needs studying? Realistically, i set aside 2-3 hours a day, and more if needed, to do homework, and study for my classes. Yes, i will say that i am one of those people who rarely does assigned textbook reading, unless it is a hum class. It's not that i didn't want to do the reading, its because i am a Networking major (computer sci minor), and anything i need to do or need to learn can be found online or through the power of Google fu!

4. Just don't go out much, and don't buy unnecessary things! if it is for your hygiene or for personal use then of course get it! Other than that, if you have a meal plan, then try to adjust your eating schedule so that you only eat during then. Occasionally you can go out, but don't make a habit of it (i realize you will go out with friends you make there).

5. Oh yes, there is quite alot more! If you can, go out to a reputable fraternity house, and if asked to, become a member! Since i do go to a tech school, one of our 2 fraternity houses are a bunch of geeks (one of my best friends attends another college, and is part of the same fraternity. He says they are the geekiest chapter out of the whole society). They can be contacts for you if you start to look for jobs, and may even put in good words for you at these different jobs. It is all about human networking!

if you can, get to know your profs, and USE THEM AS RESOURCES TO ACADEMIC PROBLEMS! I cannot tell you how much profs have helped me get the most of my current education. i know google is helpful and all, but it doesnt know the exact thing the professor is looking for. Only the professor does!

Above all else, get to know the people around you and in your major! it is tempting to stay inside and game all day (unfortunately, that is what i do). Your peers can help you study, and when working in groups always have backup plans in case work doesn't get accomplished by some people! also, schedule frequent group meetings at a time that works out for the whole group (even if that time is on a weekend).

finally, You are attending college to get a higher education in a field you choose, and not going just to party! yes it is fun to let loose once and a while, but do not make a habit of it! Half the people who just go to party either drop out, or have terrible gpa's attend all the classes you can (just by doing that can help you get a decent GPA) and take notes on all you can! then compare those notes with other people in case there was things you missed! Employers will look at how you did in college, and you want to impress them with good GPA's (also certifications help A LOT).

Remember that college is going to be one of the best times of your life, do Have some fun, But do focus on all the school work you feel necessary! YOU WILL DO JUST FINE!

2. What's something you DIDN'T bring that you really wished you had?
3. How did you manage your time?
4. Got any good money-saving tips?
5. Anything else I should know?

1. Extra school supplies. I brought a whole load of extra stuff with me, and I only ended up using just a tiny fraction of what I brought. So definitely, just bring the essentials; if you need anything else, your prof will inform you.

2. Hrm. I don't have this problem, so can't give any answers.

3. Time management's really hard for me, so I can give you a little tips. Plan ahead - if you have homework due in a day or so, make it your first priority. If it's a large, and you have plenty of time to do it, start it earlier on. You actually don't have that much time. What helps me is if I set mini-deadlines so that I can get my work done right away; and be sure to work in places that inspires you to do work, like a library, free classroom, study area. But the biggest thing that I can tell you is just to remind yourself that you don't actually have a lot of time. That's what gets me most of the time, along with my classmates.

4. Buy what you need, don't buy what you want. If you have a bank account, keep some money aside in there for emergencies. Have a budget, and make sure that in your budget, you are allocating a certain percentage that goes into savings. That way, if some emergency arises, you have some funds to dip into. If you are dorming, then you might have a meal plan - take that, don't eat out. It's really painful on the wallet if you keep buying food from fast food places and the such.

5. Just remember that you're in this for the long haul. It might get hard on you, especially in terms of work load, but just don't give up. Sometimes, you might have professors that irritate you; weird accent, insane quizzes, or just plain awful. I think that's a given for every educational institution. Just keep trudging on, and study as hard as you can - but at the same time, watch your health. I've collapsed a few times thanks to over nighters over studying. Don't let that happen to you. Sleep often, eat healthy, and stick with it.

In the UK we have

Secondary Education (larger schools include college programmes)
College (also provides some higher education programmes)
University

I hope to do a semester in Sweden (Or Denmark) ASAP. I want to get out of America and see Europe, damn it.
Sweden or Norway. Denmark's nice, but it's the most Americanized country of the North European ones, whereas Sweden and Norway are more traditional. Finland's also great.
While I call it college, technically I went to "Central Connecticut State University" I honestly don't know if there's a difference between a college and university.
I guess I meant more that college (at least in those college movies) looks like a fucking 24/7 party with mascots and own sweaters and shit, whereas universities in Sweden is go study and enjoy the city sights no clubs fuck you.

Really? My house is about 2 minutes away from the college I'll be attending, but my parents tell me to stay there; that dorm life was one of the best parts of college for them. I've also stayed in friend's dorms on weekends, and it was a BLAST. I can't wait to get out of the house.
im not in college yet but i live in a dorm in highschool
i also live 2 mins from it =] but if u live near home u can allways go grab a sock or 2
manage time: i find it hard to sit down and study for a long time so i do 20-30mins of learning and like 15mins of break
I can't wait 'til college.

reminds me of that goofy goes to collage movie XD

Nah, we have 2 schools, Primary (years 1-6, ages 5-11), Secondary (years 7-11, ages 12-16) and then either Sixth form if your school has it (12-13, age 16-18) or college
oh i allways thought a college is like a university with dorms
