New and being harassed? Who are these people?

Imagine it's saturday morning, you finally got enough rest and you are ready to play your favorite FPS game :P.

If you are new to FPS games and used to playing MMORPG's and want to get better at it then you practice right? That means playing allot and reading about the game mechanics. I do that allot.

This morning I have to come into the game to deal with not learning to be a better player to support my team, but defend myself from someone who seemed like a dangerous stalker.

I tried to tell this person that I was new to the game, but knew how to play, and all i could see was profanity.. ( they were not even on my team) :/

I told this person I was not a male so the "anatomy" he was referring to didn't fit, because i'm female.

This player went on to tell the chat that I was this kid (boy) who was telling him ages ago about my dead mother.. some story he made up in chat..." my mother is very much alive and i'm not a kid" I had never spoke to this person in my life. I rarely speak in games, unless it's about the game or to joke and laugh about how we are doing.

This person tried to vote me off the server at least 7 times and it would not pass.
He even got angry when I killed one of his friends in the game with my backburner weapon (pyro weapon).

Honestly I know people who r gamers are young, but this is just seriously sick, when you invest time and money in games to never be able to have fun.

When u have people make up stories about you and then call u nasty names , i mean something you woukld not say in a public setting, how would you take it?

Let it happen to you and allow the majority to vote on it and be negative and go along with the hate, then tell me if you would like it.

Being over sensitive is one thing, but to be in a position to get voted out of a game when u login based on someone liking you is just sad, and to me a bit stupid.

Exactly like that. Remember it's only a game and he didn't really harass you that much now did he. I recommend

While I completely understand you, it would probably be a good idea to review our Rules. You'll see that our admins do not ban for personal/family insults. As odd as it sounds - that's how it works here. You have to get used to cyber bullying and get along with it. Apparently.

Is this how things are handled here, when you have a complaint? " a pic of some chill pills?" it's nice and I do love to laugh and joke around and that is why i didnt like what happened this morning... From what I understand this person spammed the !vote to kick me.. and it would not pass. What would you call this?

Nah, but really, if it was serious we take it seriously. I'm just saying that cause I can't find anything in the chat logs apart from 2 dead mother references. If it happens again in game just type /report and someone will be along shortly.

You are right. This was just cyberbullying. There is nothing anyone can do about it and I will just play the game and avoid the person on the server. If I want to play this map... there is nothing I can do because he is a regular there... People really get intimidated by other people over the internet and that is how he set the mood for the other players because 90% tried to vote me out and we are all getting along with no problems in the game.

I actually wish I had never even logged in today lol

I understand your frustration and disappointment, but don't take it too seriously. Just don't pay attention to kids who have just reached puberty - enjoy your gameplay and that's it.
 
Thanks for your responses. I will contact an admin directly. to be honest I would not want to see somoene banned fromn playing their favorite game either. I am just not that mean. This person really needs to stop yellling out profanity when things are not going his way... It just really got out of hand and he went really off the deepend.

I can understand if something someone is saying is pissing you off. Odds are it was bothering more than on person. If someone is doing what you described, altho not against any rules, you still have something you can do to deal with it. Type !votemenu into chat. From the Vote Menu choose the Gag/Mute option and select the annoying person's name. This will start a vote to have the person gagged&muted. Problem solved.

Last I checked, TF2 is Free to Play.

That doesn't necessarily mean that somebody hasn't spent money on the game.

Or people like myself, who've had the game since before it was F2P.

However, it really looks like OP is being hypersensitive here. Seriously, this is the internet. People will call you names. Especially if you're a girl. Does it make it right? Not really, but it's to be expected.

If you thought that joining a game, where the sole purpose of the game is to commit mass murder and dismemberment, and expect people to be all sunshine and rainbows, then that's your own mistake.
